Healthy Cynometra Cauliflora, the Anti-Obesity Functional Foods

Obesity is a chronic and medical condition caused by excess body fat accumulated to some extent that impacts personal health. The hallmark of obesity is attenuated metabolism and structural cell changes in the obese fat observed by reducing metabolic activity.

According to the statistics provided by the National Center for Health Statistics (2015-2016), in the US, approximately 39.8% of adults aged 20 and over were obese accompanied by another 31.8% overweight.

Visceral fat is a layer of fat that surrounds the organs. Overexpression of visceral fat has been found to promote insulin resistance, diabetes, heart disease, and inflammation.

In obese, accumulation of visceral fat is predominant in the intra-abdominal cavity.

According to the BMI index, a person is considered overweight, if he/she has a BMI between 25 to 29.9 kg/m2. A BMI of 30 kg/m2 or more is an indication of obesity.

In other words, obesity is a progressive chronic disease characterized by abnormal fat accumulation in the body tissues that may impair health.

Similar to other chronic medical conditions including diabetes, cardiovascular disease or high blood pressure, obesity has recently become a serious health problem in the US as nearly 35% of Americans are obese accompanied by a similar percentage of overweight adults.

Obesity and overweight on the U.S. economy have eclipsed $1.7 trillion, equivalent to 9.3 percent of the nation's gross domestic product, according to a new overweight report on chronic diseases.

Dr. Maximilian Tremmel, the lead scientist in a systematic literature review of the economic burden of obesity, wrote, " almost half of the world’s adult population will be overweight or obese by 2030 if the prevalence continues on the current trend [6] and consequently also the costs attributable to obesity will increase"

And, "A useful example for rapidly rising costs attributable to obesity from these selected studies are the two mentioned studies from Germany [44,46]. The results of the two papers together show that total societal costs in Germany due to obesity have increased from €9.8 million to €12.2 million between 2002 and 2008. Therefore, public health interventions should focus on the prevention of obesity as soon as possible, ideally at a young age".

Description
Cynometra cauliflora is a species of the genus Cynometra, native to Malaysia, and found mainly in northern Peninsular Malaysia.

On finding a potential phytochemical for the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases, researchers examined the anti-obesity and lipid-lowering effects of ethanolic extract of C. cauliflora leaves and its major compound (vitexin) in C57BL/6 obese mice induced by high-fat diet (HFD).

The study included male C57BL/6 mice induced obese by feeding with HFD (60% fat) for 16 weeks followed by the treatment that starts during the last 8 weeks of HFD feeding with C. cauliflora leaf extract at 200 and 400 mg/kg/day, orlistat (10 mg/kg) and vitexin (10 mg/kg).

According to the chemical analysis,
* The oral administration of C. cauliflora (400 and 200 mg/kg) and vitexin significantly reduced body weight, adipose tissue and liver weight, and lipid accumulation in the liver compared to control HFD group.

* Both doses of C. cauliflora also significantly (P ≤ 0.05) decreased serum triglyceride, LDL, lipase, IL-6, peptide YY, resistin levels, hyperglycemia, hyperinsulinemia, and hyperleptinemia compared to the control HFD group.

* C. cauliflora significantly up-regulated the expression of adiponectin, Glut4, Mtor, IRS-1 and InsR genes associated with the sustaining weight loss and significantly decreased the expression of Lepr in white adipose tissue involved in stimulating weight gain.

Based on the findings, researchers said, "This study shows interesting outcomes of C. cauliflora against HFD-induced obesity and associated metabolic abnormalities".

Taken altogether, beta-Sitosterol may be considered a supplement for the prevention and treatment of bacterial infectious diseases, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of beta-Sitosterol in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Green Tea, the Best in Completed clearance of External Anogenital Warts Topically

Topical green tea extract may have a significant potency for treatment of External Anogenital Wartsis, a renowned institute study suggested

Green tea, a precious drink processes numbers of health benefits known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world. However, as yin in nature herbal medicine or food, long term injection of large amounts may obstruct the balance of yin-yang, induced "yin excessive syndrome" or "yang vacuity syndrome" including weaken immunity and painful case of GERD,... according to traditional Chinese medicine's Yin-Yang theory.

Stephen (Kora Corporation Ltd), is a herbal medicinal topical formulated product isolated from green tea, approved by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) inhibited the progression and cured external genital and perianal warts with 0.1g of green tea extract per gram (10%).

According to the University of Toronto, Sinecatechins ointment with 10% green tea extract also promoted the quality of life and sexual well-being by healing the external genital warts (EGWs) induced by the human papillomavirus (HPV) cause of common sexually transmitted infection.

Dr. Gupta AK, the lead author said, " (The) phase III trials of sinecatechins 10% ointment have demonstrated higher efficacy and lower recurrence rates compared to currently available patient-applied treatments".

In a randomized, double-blind, vehicle-controlled trial involved 502 male and female patients aged 18 years and older, with 2-30 anogenital warts ranging from 12 to 600 mm(2) total wart area with topical application of sinecatechins ointment 15% or 10%, three times daily for a maximum of 16 weeks or until complete clearance of all warts or placebo, group treated with sinecatechins ointment at the end showed partial clearance rates of at least of 78.4% and 74.0% compared with 51.5% in placebo, in the week 4 and 6.

The study also found that the sinecatechins ointment group also reduced the recurrence rate of 6.5% to 8.3%, developed new warts in compared 8.8% in the placebo group.

Furthermore, the application of Sinecatechins ointment with 10% and 15% green tea extract showed a well-tolerated mild or moderate adverse effect in all patients.

Truly, there is no doubt that the green tea process a potential value for the treatment of external genital warts (EGWs) through the efficacy of phytochemical catechin in induced apoptosis of micro bacterial expression.

Cruciferous Vegetables Show an Inverse Association with the Risk of Coronary Heart Disease

Heart diseases are a medical condition associated with any disruption of blood vessels and heart function.

There are 5 types of heart diseases, including
* Heart disease affected by the arteries to the heart, such as coronary artery heart disease.

* heart disease affected by heart valves functions in regulating blood flow such as valvular heart disease.

* heart disease affected electrical conduction such as arrhythmias.

* Heart disease affected by heart muscles such as cardiomyopathy. And

* Congenital heart disease caused by heart defect at birth

According to the statistics, heart disease is the leading cause of death in the US, approximately 610,000 people die of heart disease every year.

Coronary heart disease (CHD) kills over 370,000 people annually.

Furthermore, the most common heart disease in North America is CHD, the type of heart disease caused by plaque buildup on artery walls, leading to narrow, thickens and stiffens arteries. Some researchers suggested that the causes of plaque build-up on the arterial wall were the results of several factors including an unhealthy diet, lack of exercise, being overweight and smoking.

What causes plaques to build up on the arterial is debatable. However, researchers suggested that the Western diet is associated with a significantly increased risk of coronary artery disease.

Dr. Venegas-Pino DE in the classification of the effect of diet on heart diseases said," the western-diet-fed male ApoE-/-: Ins2+/Akita mouse, with profound cardiovascular disease involving extensive atherosclerosis, coronary artery disease and myocardial infarct resulting in shortened lifespan(4)".

The most common symptoms of coronary artery disease are angina, the condition characterized by chest pain or discomfort, and shortness of breath as a result of the weakening of heart muscle which can not pump enough blood to the body's needs.

Over time, the prolonged weakened heart muscle can lead to complications of heart failure, irregular heartbeat, or arrhythmia.

Cruciferous vegetables are a group of vegetables, belongings to the family Brassicaceae (also called Cruciferae) with many genera, species, and cultivated all over the world in suitable climate for commercial profits, including cauliflower, cabbage, kale, garden cress, bok choy, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, and green leafy vegetables.

On finding a potential remedy for the prevention of plaque accumulated on the arterial wall, researchers investigated the association of intake of glucosinolates with the risk of coronary heart disease (CHD).

A total of 74,241 women in the Nurses' Health Study (NHS; 1984-2012), 94,163 women in the NHSII (1991-2013), and 42,170 men in the Health Professionals Follow-Up Study (1986-2012), who were free of cardiovascular disease and cancer at baseline were given Glucosinolate intake that was assessed using validated semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaires at baseline and updated every 2-4 years during follow-up.

According to the food-questionnaire returned
* During 4,824,001 person-years of follow-up, 8,010 cases of CHD were identified in the three cohorts.

* After adjustment for major lifestyle and dietary risk factors of CHD, weak but significant positive associations were observed for glucosinolates with CHD risk when comparing the top with bottom quintiles (hazard ratio [HR]:1.09; 95% CI: 1.01, 1.17; Ptrend<0.001).

* Higher intakes of three major subtypes of glucosinolates were consistently associated with a higher CHD risk, although the association for indolyl glucosinolates did not achieve statistical significance. Regarding cruciferous vegetable intake.

Moreover, participants who consumed one or more servings per week of Brussels sprouts (HR: 1.16; 95% CI: 1.06, 1.26; P<0.001) and cabbage (HR: 1.09; 95% CI: 1.02, 1.17; P=0.009) had a significantly higher CHD risk than those who consumed these cruciferous vegetables less than once per month.

Based on the results, researchers said, " dietary glucosinolate intake was associated with a slightly higher risk of CHD in US adults".

Taken altogether, cruciferous vegetables may be considered functional remedies for the prevention of coronary heart disease, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Ginger, the Natural Antibiofilm Remedy with No Side Effects

Scientists may have a kitchen remedy that processes the potential to improve the immune function against infection, some studies suggested.

A biofilm is a system that can be adapted internally to environmental conditions by its inhabitants. In other words, biofilm-forming from bacteria is one of the common forms of bacterial infection affecting up to 80% of human bacterial infections.

In biology, biofilm used by the bacteria as a natural defense mechanism of bacteria to survive under harsh environments, by attaching to a solid surface in a large community, including the skin, teeth, and mucosa.

Bacterial initiates biofilm formation with an aim to greatly enhance survival in hosts and cause chronic infections, leading to long-term inflammation and tissue damages.

The formation of a biofilm of bacteria may go through 2 stages, the adhesion phase is the stage that the bacteria attach to the surface or accumulates on a surface, After the adhesion phase, the bacteria enter the colonial phase, where the bacteria continue to grow, leading to the formation of dense bacterial aggregates.
Dr. Li XH, the lead scientist in examing the new anti-biofilm agents, said, "In biofilms, microorganisms become much more resistant to antimicrobial treatments, harsh environmental conditions, and host immunity".

And, "Currently, it is believed over 80% of chronic infectious diseases are mediated by biofilms, and it is known that conventional antibiotic medications are inadequate at eradicating this biofilm-mediated infection".

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) or ginger root, the second superfood used for thousands of years by mankind, is the genus Zingiber, belonging to the family Zingiberaceae, native to Tamil.

The root has been used in traditional and Chinese medicine for the treatment of dyspepsia, gastroparesis, constipation, edema, difficult urination, colic, etc.

Scientists on finding a natural compound with anti-biofilm activity for the treatment of microbial infection evaluated the ginger anti-biofilm formation effects.

Injection of ginger exerted a strong inhibition against Pseudomonas aeruginosa PA14 biofilm formation.

The anti-biofilm activity of ginger caused a reduction of 39–56% when the ginger extract was added to the culture.

The ginger extract also decreased the production of extracellular polymeric substances, the fundamental component that determines the physiochemical properties of a biofilm, according to the chemical analysis and confocal laser scanning microscopy.

Furthermore, ginger extract formed noticeably less rugose colonies on agar plates containing Congo red and facilitated swarming motility on soft agar plates.

The ginger extract also inhibited biofilm formation in both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.

The efficacy of ginger extract was attributed to the reduced level of a second messenger, bis-(3′-5′)-cyclic dimeric guanosine monophosphate in the induction of biofilm formation.

Also, surface biofilm cells formed with ginger extract detached more easily with surfactant than did those without ginger extract.

The results strongly support the use of ginger as a broad spectrum biofilm inhibitor, in the reduction of bacterial biofilm formation, a major cause of serious health problems.

In order to reveal more information about the ginger effect against biofilm formation, researchers examined the bioactive compounds on Candida albicans.

6-gingerol, 8-gingerol, and 6-shogaol effectively inhibited biofilm formation and 6-shogaol at 10 μg/ml significantly reduced C. Albicans biofilm formation with no harming the planktonic cell growth.

Moreover, 6-gingerol and 6-shogaol inhibited hyphal growth in embedded colonies and free-living planktonic cells and prevented cell aggregation.

Additionally, 6-gingerol and 6-shogaol reduced C. Albicans virulence in a nematode infection model without causing toxicity at the tested concentrations.

Dr. Jin-Hyung Lee,, the lead scientist wrote in the final report, "These results highlight the antibiofilm and antivirulence activities of the ginger components, 6-gingerol and 6-shogaol, against a drug-resistant C. Albicans strain".

Taken altogether, ginger processed a high amount of bioactive compounds may be considered a functional remedy for the prevention of bacterial infection by inhibiting the biofilm activity of micro pathogens.

Green Leafy Veggies Process Bile Acid Binding Activity

Bile acids synthesized from by oxidation from cholesterol in the liver, flowing to the gallbladder to aid digestion.

Cholesterol is a waxy substance that is produced either by the liver or injected from animal food sources.

Cholesterol found in our body is needed for our body to build cell walls, hormones, and vitamin D, and create bile salts that aid digestion. However, too much of them, in most cases due to the intake of animal protein can cause plaques built up on the arterial wall, the major cause of heart disease and stroke.

Bile acid-binding is a process that interferes with normal fat digestion and absorption including the prevention of absorption of fat-soluble vitamins such as A, D, E, and K.

In other words, binding of bile acids (BAs) may have a strong effect to lower blood cholesterol levels by increasing the excretion of bile acids in the stool and reducing the amount of bile acid returning to the liver.

By inhibiting the levels of bile acid caused by a certain type of liver/bile duct disease such as partial biliary obstruction, levels of cholesterol can be controlled.

Conventionally, the effects of bile acid sequestrant are limited. Low doses of 8 gram/day of Cholestyramine, a bile acid sequestrant, which binds bile in the gastrointestinal tract to prevent its reabsorption can lower LDL cholesterol by 10%-15% compared to high doses of 24 gram/day of only 25%.

In other words, bile acid-binding medicine such as Cholestyramine, used alone are less effective, compared to statins in lowering LDL cholesterol.

The most common symptoms associated with the intake of Cholestyramine are constipation, diarrhea, stomach/abdominal pain, bloating, nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite.

On finding a potential plant that processes anti-high blood cholesterol activity, researchers compared the bile acid-binding potential that lowers the risk of heart disease and cancer of various vegetables.

Compared to Cholestyramine (a cholesterol-lowering, bile acid-binding drug) that was used as the positive control treatment and cellulose as the negative control, researchers found that* Relative to cholestyramine, in vitro bile acid binding on dry matter basis was for the collard greens, kale, and mustard greens, 13%; broccoli, 10%; Brussels sprouts and spinach, 8%; green bell pepper, 7%; and cabbage, 5%.

In other words, collard greens = kale = mustard greens showed the strongest healthy-promoting potential in bile acid-binding compared to the following lesser extent of > broccoli > Brussels sprouts = spinach = green bell pepper > cabbage.

More importantly, steam cooking significantly improved the in vitro bile acid binding of collard greens, kale, mustard greens, broccoli, green bell pepper, and cabbage compared to vegetables raw (uncooked).

More precisely, Inclusion of steam-cooked collard greens, kale, mustard greens, broccoli, green bell pepper, and cabbage in our daily diet may have the potential in improving the healthy levels of blood cholesterol.

Collectively, researchers said, "These green/leafy vegetables, when consumed regularly after steam cooking, would lower the risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer, advance human nutrition research, and improve public health".

Taken altogether, green leafy veggies may be considered functional foods for lowering blood cholesterol, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Healthy Food Onion Reduces The Risk of Esophageal Cancer

An esophagus or gullet, an organ in vertebrates, is the tube that leads foods from the pharynx to the stomach.

Esophageal cancer is a medical condition caused by cell growth disorderly and uncontrollably in the tissue of the esophagus due to the alternation of the cell DNA.

More precisely, esophageal cancer can be a result of DNA alternation of the cells that line the upper part of the esophagus or glandular cells that line the lower part of the esophagus, connecting to the stomach.

Patients with esophageal cancer at the very early stage due to the very small size of the tumor are asymptomatic. However, at the advanced stage, esophageal cancer tends to travel a distance away to infect other healthy tissue and organ, leading to secondary metastasis.

The most common areas of metastasis of esophageal cancer are lymph node around the bottom of the esophagus, stomach and chest.

According to the statistic, esophageal cancer is the seventh most common cause of cancer death among men. In 2019, about 17,650 new esophageal cancer cases will bed diagnosed, including 13,750 men and 3,900 women.

Esophageal cancer will cause the death of 16,080 Americans, including 13,020 men and 3,060 women.

Believe it or not, esophageal cancer is more common among men than among women. The lifetime risk of esophageal cancer in the US is 1 in 132 in men and about 1 in 455 in women.

Esophageal cancer can be classified into, depending on the location which cancer starts
* Squamous cancer
If the cancer cell starts in the upper part of the esophagus caused by the DNA alternation of the squamous cell.

* Adenocarcinomas
If the cancer cell starts in the lower part of the esophagus caused by the DNA and alternation of the glandular cells.

The most common symptoms of esophageal cancer are difficulty swallowing or pain caused by refluxing or swallowing, pain in the throat or back, behind the breastbone, heartburn, hoarseness or coughing, coughing blood and accompanied by the general symptoms shared by other types of cancer.

The onion is a plant in the genus Allium, belonging to the family Alliaceae, a close relation of garlic. It is often called the "king of vegetables" because of its pungent taste and found in a large number of recipes and preparations spanning almost the totality of the world's cultures.

Depending on the variety, an onion can be sharp, spicy, tangy, pungent, mild or sweet.

On finding a potential compound for the treatment of esophageal cancer, researchers examined the effect of raw garlic/onion consumed at least one time per week on the development of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) in three different sections of the esophagus.

The study included a total of A 343 patients with SCC of the esophagus and 755 cancer-free control subjects recruited for this study from 1996 to 2005.

According to the results of tested assays, intake of raw onions/garlic, and fruits are significantly protective against esophageal SSC risk compared to the increased risk of hot foods.

In other words, adding additional certain dietary components may affect carcinogenesis locally and systemically.

Furthermore, according to the study of the Istituto di Ricerche Farmacologiche "Mario Negri",
consumption of onions showed a protective effect on esophageal cancer, compared to garlic and other vegetables.

More precisely, onion and garlic intake improved the relative risk ratio by 0.12 and 0.43, respectively.

The results strongly suggested the inverse association between the frequency of use of allium vegetables such as onion and garlic against the risk of several common cancers, including esophageal cancer

Dr. Galeone C wrote in the final report, "Allium vegetables are a favorable correlate of cancer risk in Europe".

Taken altogether, onion may be considered a remedy for the prevention and treatment of adjuvant esophageal cancer, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Vegetables and Fruits Show Inverse;y Associated with the Risk of Esophageal Cancer

Esophagus, an organ in vertebrates, is the tube that leads foods from the pharynx to the stomach.

At the advanced stage, most cases of esophageal cancer after penetrating the wall of the esophagus tend to spread to the lymph node around the bottom of the esophagus, stomach, and chest, then to the distant parts of the body.

According to the statistics provided by the American Cancer Society, in 2019, approximately 17,650 new esophageal cancer cases will be diagnosed, including 13,750 in men and 3,900 in women.

Also, in 2019, esophageal cancer will also cause the death of 16,080 Americans, including 13,020 in men and 3,060 in women.

The 5-year survival rate of people diagnosed in the local stage of esophageal cancer is 45%, much less than other cancer, including 100% of breast cancer.

Believe it or not, esophageal cancer is more common among men than among women. The lifetime risk of esophageal cancer in the US is 1 in 132 in men and about 1 in 455 in women.

Patients with esophageal cancer at the very early stage due to the very small size of the tumor are asymptomatic. However, at the advanced stage, esophageal cancer tends to travel a distance away to infect other healthy tissue and organ, leading to secondary metastasis.

The most common areas of metastasis of esophageal cancer are lymph node around the bottom of the esophagus, stomach, and chest.

On finding a potential plant that processes anti-malignant tumor, activity researchers investigated the association between vegetables and fruits consumption and risk of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC), gastric cardia adenocarcinoma (GCA) and gastric noncardia adenocarcinoma (GNCA)

According to the Netherlands Cohort Study in 1986 consisting of 120,852 Dutch men and women aged 55-69 filled out a questionnaire on diet and other cancer risk factors and after 16.3 years of follow-up
* 101 ESCC, 144 EAC, 156 GCA, 460 GNCA cases were identified.

* Total vegetable consumption was nonsignificantly inversely associated with EAC and ESCC risk, but not with GCA and GNCA risk/

* There were significant inverse associations with raw vegetables and EAC risk [RR per 25 g/day: 0.81, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.68-0.98], and Brassica vegetables and GCA risk (RR per 25 g/day: 0.72, 95% CI 0.54-0.95).

* Total fruit consumption was associated with a nonsignificantly decreased EAC risk. Citrus fruits were inversely associated with EAC and GCA risk (RRs for highest vs. lowest intake: 0.55, 95% CI 0.31-0.98 and 0.38, 95% CI 0.21-0.69, respectively).

* Particularly, current smokers, vegetables, and possibly also fruits intake was inversely associated with ESCC and EAC risk.

Based on the evidence, scientists said, "Consumption of (specific groups of) vegetables and fruits may protect against subtypes of esophageal and gastric cancer:.

Taken altogether, vegetables and fruits may be considered functional foods for the prevention and treatment of esophageal cancer, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Beet and Carrot Protect the Liver Against Fatty Liver Diseases

A fatty liver is a liver condition associated with the accumulation of excess fat in the liver.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver (NAFL) is the early stage of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) caused by the accumulation of fat in the liver, other than excessive use of alcohol.

Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a type of inflammatory non-alcoholic fatty liver disease caused by excessive fat accumulated in the liver.

Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is asymptomatic until the condition is developed into cirrhosis, the condition that causes advanced liver scars, and reduced the performance of the liver.

In other words, if more than 5% – 10% percent of your liver’s weight is fat, you have a fatty liver (steatosis).

According to the statistics, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is one of the most common causes of liver disease affecting 100 million people in the US. Out of that number, approximately 20% of people have NASH.

Medical conditions such as obesity, metabolic syndrome, and type 2 diabetes are some of the metabolic risk factors that have been found to induce the development of NASH.

As of today, there is no effective treatment of NASH. Depending on the condition people with overweight or obese are recommended to lose weight. The aim of medical treatment is to reduce the symptoms and delay the progression of the condition and improve the quality of life.

Out of many prevalent factors that cause the onset of NASH, some researchers suggested that the promotion of a high-fat diet over the past few decades induced a high percentage of the overweight and obese population may be the major culprit associated with the rise of NASH.

Dr. Jensen VS, the lead scientist wrote, "Hepatic dysfunction and inflammation was confirmed in HFD-fed rats by elevated levels of hepatic MCP-1 (p < 0.0001), TNF-alpha (p < 0.001) and plasma β-hydroxybutyrate (p < 0.0001), and in NASH-fed rats by elevated levels of hepatic MCP-1 (p < 0.01), increased hepatic macrophage infiltration (p < 0.001), and higher plasma levels of alanine aminotransferase (p < 0.0001) aspartate aminotransferase (p < 0.05), haptoglobin (p < 0.001) and TIMP-1 (p < 0.01) compared to Control".

And, " dietary fat and cholesterol are the primary drivers of NAFLD development and progression in rats, while fructose mostly exerts its effect on the circulating lipid pool".

Betaxanthins are phytochemicals in the class of red and yellow indole-derived pigments, belonging to the group of Betalains, found abundantly in beets, Sicilian prickly pear, etc.

On finding a potent ingredient for the treatment of liver disease, researchers examined the protecting effects of bioactive agents of the lyophilized table beet and carrot powder on fatty liver.

The shorten term study included male Wistar rats fed with chow with or without high fat (2% cholesterol, 0.5% cholic acid, 20% sunflower oil) and treated with 0.1 or 1 g/bwkg/day natural product for ten days parallel with the feedings.

Based on the tested analysis, compared to other feedings, the higher dose of the natural product better decreased the induced free radical reactions, cyclooxygenase-2, and proteins associated with the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines in normal and fatty liver tissues.

More precisely, the natural treatment of beet and carrot powder inhibited liver oxidative stress by inhibiting the inflammatory expression without causing significant changes in all global antioxidant parameters.

However, the antioxidant activity of mobilized methyl group concentrations associated with liver stress also increased by fatty liver tissues.

Based on the evidence, researchers said, "beet and carrot proved to be a "functional food" in rats with alimentary fat-induced fatty liver. It cannot be ruled out that this beneficial effect may have clinical relevance".

Taken altogether, beet and carrot may be considered functional remedies for the prevention of fatty liver disease, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Healthy Food Cucumber, the Potential Free Radical Scavenger

Free radical scavengers are antioxidant which inhibit free radicals before they can induce a chain of domino's reaction that has been found to cause protein, lipid and cell damage, leading to cell injury and cell death.

Most common free radical scavengers can be either produced by the host or from the dietary sources, including catalases, glutathione peroxidase, superoxide dismutase (SOD), vitamin A, C, and E.

Oxidative stress is imbalanced of the ratio of antioxidants and free radical. In other words, overexpression of free radicals and low levels of antioxidants in the body can lead to oxidative stress, a major cause of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer.

In a healthy individual, dietary, antioxidant and antioxidant enzymes produced by the liver are more than enough to counter free radicals produced from all sources.

However, for people with a weakened immune system, intake of antioxidant supplements may be necessary, and in chronic illness patients, antioxidant supplementation at an early stage of illness has been found to improve therapies.

Due to the complexity in treating chronic and critical illness patients, some researchers suggested that
professionals need to understand the mechanism of damage caused by free radicals and free radical scavengers protective activity for the treatment of varied pathological conditions.

The cucumber plant is a species of Cucumis Sativus, belongings to the family Cucurbitaceae and native to Western Asia. It is a creeping vine with roots in the ground and grows up with the support of frames.

With an aim to find a natural compound which processes anti-free radical overexpression, researchers investigated the aqueous fruit extract of Cucumis sativus L. anti-free radical scavenging activities.

In vitro, aqueous fruit extract at 250 and 500 μg/ml showed a significant effect in the inhibition of free radicals through scavenging activity.

Compared to other chemical compounds, The C. sativus fruit extract showed maximum antioxidant and at 500 μg/ml and 500 mg/kg,

The efficacy of the extracts was attributed to the presence of flavonoids and tannins evidenced by preliminary phytochemical screening.

Additionally, in the comparison of carrot, cucumber, and broccoli seed flours extracted with 50% acetone for their free radical scavenging property researcher found that
* Cucumber showed a strong free radical scavenging property against DPPH radical scavenging capacity, oxygen radical absorbing capacity, and hydroxyl radical (HO•) scavenging capacity secondary to the broccoli seed flour extract.

* in ABTS•+ scavenging capacity of 250 μmol TE/g, carrot showed a better effect compared to cucumber.

Based on the findings, Dr. Choe U, the lead scientist wrote in the final report, "The results might be used to promote the value-added utilization of these vegetable seed flours in improving human health".

Taken altogether, cucumber may be used for the treatment of disease associated with oxidative stress, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Onion Promotes Healthy Gut Microbiota

Gut microbiota is a community of microbes living in the gastrointestinal tract, including at least 1000 different species of known bacteria with more than 3 million genes.

In a healthy individual, the ratio of good and bad microbes in the gut are balanced. However, people who have a psychological condition such as anxiety, and depression, and are under constant stress and long-term use of antibiotics, particularly your diet may have a negative impact on the ratio.

More precisely, under normal conditions, gut microbiota plays a critical role in overall health,
* Gut microbiota improves the absorption of the dietary nutrients of the digestive system

* Gut microbiota protects the body against xenobiotics and drug toxicity through facilitating the excretion.

* Gut microbiota also maintains the structural integrity of the gut mucosal barrier by enhancing the epithelial cells that protect the intestine against invasive pathogens and ensure the function of intestinal in nutrients adsorption.

* Gut microbiota interacts with the immune system against inflammatory immune disorders and inhibits the risk of gastrointestinal diseases and non-gastrointestinal diseases caused by overexpression of bad bacteria.

However, imbalanced the ratio of gut microbiota may have a negative impact on human health and diseases.
Epidemiological studies suggested imbalanced gut microbiota dysbiosis found in overweight and obese has been found to promote diet-induced obesity and metabolic complications.

Dr. KarinaAl-Ass wrote, "Obesity is a worldwide epidemiologic syndrome characterized by fat mass accumulation, mainly visceral fat. Current thinking considers the potential role of gut microbiota on the development of obesity and its related comorbidities"

And " Gut microbiota can influence energy extraction from food, lipid metabolism, immune response, and endocrine functions and its profile has shown to differs between obese and lean subjects".
A recent joint study led by the Tianjin Medical University, General Hospital, onion supplement may be potent to improve gut microflora and intestinal histomorphology on an animal model.

The study included a total of 300 and 12-day old broiler chicks (Ross) that randomly divided into four groups as A served as the control without any supplementation, and B, C, and D received supplemented with onion powder at the rate of 1.5, 2 and 2.5g/kg of feed respectively.

Based on the tested results,* Supplementation of onion exerted a significantly (P<0.05) increased weight gain and feed consumption compared to control.

* Furthermore, supplementation of onion significantly inhibited the population of E. coli and increased significantly Lactobacillus and Streptococcus species.

In other words, onion supplement promotes colon health by improving the ratio of gut microbiota.

* More importantly, injection of onion supplement also significantly increases the morphometry of length, width, crypt depth, and surface area of the villus in duodenum, jejunum, and ileum of the small intestine associated with the colon health optimization.

Based on the findings, researchers said, "onion supplementation in broiler produced a positive effect on performance, gut microflora, and intestinal histomorphology".

Taken altogether, onion processed a higher mount of onionin A (ONA) may be considered a remedy for the promotion of colon health, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Whole Food Tomato, the Best Anti-Inflammatory Remedy with No Side Effects

Inflammation is a natural defense of the immune system that protects the body against the invasion of the foreign pathogens.

Acute inflammation occurs quickly or within the hours and lasts a few days or weeks.

In the acute phase of inflammation, damaged tissues are healed itself after all pathogens are killed off.

However, if the immune system can not completely destroy all invaders in the acute phase of infection within 3 to 8weeks, it will compromise, leading to chronic low-grade inflammation, a major cause of cardiovascular disease, arthritis, and diabetes.

In most cases, depending on the types of injury, overproduction of pro-inflammatory cytokines in the acute phase of infection can cause damage to the nearby healthy tissues, leading to the formation of scars.

Anti-inflammatory is a process that inhibits the inflammatory symptoms without affecting the pro-inflammatory function of killing microorganisms.

Conventionally, the most common use of anti-inflammatory medicine for the treatment of symptoms induced by pro-inflammatory cytokines are Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) focusing on pain relief, including aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, Midol) and naproxen (Aleve, Naprosyn).

If you are planning to take them in the long-term, please make sure that you know all the side effects.

Tomato is red, edible fruit, genus Solanum, belonging to family Solanaceae, native to South America. Because of its health benefits, the tomato is grown worldwide for the commercial purpose
and often in the greenhouse.

On finding healthy food for the treatment of diseases associated with inflammation, researchers examined the tomato effects on the inflammation that causes intestinal dysbiosis associated with the onset of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD).

The study included Winnie mice, a model of spontaneous ulcerative colitis received chows enriched with 1% Bronze tomato.

According to the tested assays, at week 2, the Bronze-enriched chow administered showed no macroscopic effect on the IBD symptoms. However, at the molecular level, the Bronze-enriched chow demonstrated significant activity in the activation of anti-inflammatory genes.

According to the intracellular staining of T cells, proteins associated with the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines ( IL17A, IFNγ) were significantly inhibited by the injection of Bronez tomato.

Based on the analysis of the microbial composition, researchers also found that two weeks of Bronze enriched diet was sufficient to alter positively the microbial composition of the tested subjects.

In other words, polyphenols found in the Bronze tomato has created unfavorable conditions for bad bacterial species in the gastrointestinal tract to stimulate the progression of IBD.

Dr. Liso M, the lead scientist wrote, after taking other factors into account, "dietary regimes enriched in polyphenols may efficiently support IBD remission affecting the intestinal dysbiosis:.

Taken altogether, tomato may be considered a dietary supplement for the prevention and treatment of IBD, pending to large sample size and multicenter human study.

Healthy Food Cucumber' Cucurbitacin B Protects the Heart Against the Risk of Cardiac Hypertrophy

Cardiac hypertrophy (CH) is a medical condition characterized by the abnormal enlargement or thickening of the heart muscle, affecting the heart function in pumping blood.

Cardiac hypertrophy induced reduced blood flow to the body may cause symptoms of shortness of breath, chest pain, particularly during exercise.

In some serious cases, CH can disrupt the heart's electrical system, leading to life-threatening abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias).

The most common types of CH include
*Ventricular hypertrophy due to intense sports activities, particularly in people with intensive exercise

* Ventricular hypertrophy due to hypertension-induced ventricular pressure overload.
and
* Ventricular hypertrophy due to tricuspid regurgitation induced ventricular volume overload.

Although there are various causes associated with the onset of CH, the most common cause of CH is associated with plaque accumulated on the arterial wall resulting in a blockage that causes damage to the heart muscle.

Dr. Joa˜o Carlos Hueb, the lead scientist in the article "Association Between Atherosclerotic Aortic Plaques and Left Ventricular Hypertrophy in Patients With Cerebrovascular Events" wrote, "Almost half of the patients (43.1%) presented atherosclerotic lesions in the aorta. LVH was present in 90.0% of patients with a plaque and in only 30.3% of patients without plaque. Using high blood pressure as a covariate, the risk of patients with LVH presenting atherosclerotic plaque in the aorta was 18.23-fold greater than the risk for patients without LVH (95% CI, 5.68 to 58.54; P0.0001)"

And, "Adding age into the model, the risk increased to 26.36 (95% CI, 7.14 to 97.30; P0.0001). Conclusions—LVH detected by conventional echocardiogram is associated with a high risk of atherosclerotic plaque in the aorta and would be used as a criterion for an indication of transesophageal".

The cucumber plant is a species of Cucumis Sativus, belongings to the family Cucurbitaceae and native to Western Asia. It is a creeping vine with roots in the ground and grows up with the support of frames.

In the urgency to find a natural treatment that processes anti-cardiac hypertrophy associated with the prevalence of heart failure, researchers evaluated the anti-hypertrophy and anti-fibrosis potential of a natural plant triterpenoid, Cucurbitacin B in vivo.

The study included mice induced cardiac hypertrophy by aortic banding (AB) received cucurbitacin B treatment (Gavage, 0.2 mg/kg body weight/2 day) after 1 week of surgery.

Observation after 4 weeks of AB, cucurbitacin B (CuB) demonstrated a strong anti-hypertrophy and -fibrosis ability by decreasing heart weight, myocardial cell cross-sectional area, and interstitial fibrosis.

Furthermore, CuB also protected the heart by ameliorating systolic and diastolic abnormalities, normalized the gene expression of hypertrophic and fibrotic markers induced by aortic banding (AB).

Moreover, cucurbitacin B also showed significant hypertrophy inhibitory effect in phenylephrine that stimulates cardiac muscle cells.

The efficacy of CuB in the inhibition of abnormal enlargement, or thickening, of the heart muscle, was attributed to the increasing level of autophagy involved in the orderly degradation and recycling of cellular components by blocking signaling pathways associated with inhibited autophagy.

Taken altogether, cucumber processed a major compound cucurbitacin B (CuB) may be used for the treatment of cardiac hypertrophy, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of CuB in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Fennel, The Natural Free Radical Scavenger, Scientists Find

Fennel may be the next generative functional food with the potency in blocking the overexpression of free radical in the induction of chronic illness, some scientists suggested.

Free radicals are the highly reactive molecules with an unpaired electron that cause oxidation by stealing an electron from other molecules to give rise of a chain activity. Once free radical starts its domino effect, it can not be stopped until two free radical species react with each other to form a stable, non-radical adduct or inhibited by the presence of antioxidants.

Antioxidants, on the other hand, are stable molecules that inhibit oxidation caused by free radicals.

The relationship between free radicals and antioxidants are summarized by Dr. V. Lobo, the lead author in the study "Free radicals, antioxidants, and functional foods: Impact on human health ", "A balance between free radicals and antioxidants is necessary for proper physiological function. If free radicals overwhelm the body's ability to regulate them, a condition known as oxidative stress ensues. Free radicals thus adversely alter lipids, proteins, and DNA and trigger a number of human diseases. Hence the application of an external source of antioxidants can assist in coping with this oxidative stress".

These explanations suggested that intake of antioxidants from the food sources in the stimulation of antioxidant enzymes in the body are benefits in maintaining good health, However, the doctors continued, "Synthetic antioxidants such as butylated hydroxytoluene and butylated hydroxyanisole have recently been reported to be dangerous for human health. Thus, the search for effective, nontoxic natural compounds with antioxidative activity has been intensified in recent years".

Overexpression of free radicals or imbalance of the ratio of free radicals and antioxidants in the body can initiate oxidative stress. A prolonged period of oxidative stress in the human body plays a major part in the development of chronic and degenerative illnesses such as cancer, autoimmune disorders, aging, cataract, rheumatoid arthritis, cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases.

Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) is a plant species of genus Foeniculum, belonging to Apiaceae (Umbelliferae), native to the Mediterranean.

The functional herb has been used in traditional and herbal medicine as warming, carminative, antispasmodic, antidepressant agent and to stimulate the appetite, ease indigestion, soothe coughing, reduce intestinal spasms, to regulate the menstrual cycle and relieve PMS,...

Fennel is an excellent source of natural antioxidants and contributed to the daily antioxidant diet. The functional food is found to process a free radical scavenging activity, particularly in the application of its phenolic and flavonoid.

In the examine the effects of fennel essential oil in the presence of overexpression of free radicals, researchers found, injection of the oil exerts a strong antioxidant activity in comparison with butyrated hydroxyanisole and butylated hydroxytoluene., however, injection of ethanol and water extracts of fennel showed less effective compared to essential oil.

Furthermore, in the evaluation of the essential oils of the fruits of three organically grown cultivars of Egyptian fennel (Foeniculum vulgare var. azoricum, Foeniculum vulgare var. dulce and Foeniculum vulgare var. vulgare) in antibacterial and antioxidant effects, researchers showed that all three cultivars contain a great source of trans-Anethole, estragole, fenchone, and limonene.

All phytochemicals demonstrated significant activity in free radical scavenging, in the inhibited lipid peroxidation and metal chelation.

Additional differentiation suggested that essential oils from the azoricum and dulce cultivars were more effective antioxidants than that from the vulgare cultivar and essential oils from 3 species display similar antimicrobial activities against two species of fungi, two species of Gram-negative and two species of Gram-positive bacteria.

More importantly, in the examine the effect of essential oil of fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) lipophilic secondary metabolites, researchers at the Avicenna Tajik State Medical University, discovered that
* The oil exhibited moderate antioxidant activities.

* The antioxidants in the essential oil are found to protect the healthy cells and stimulate the expression of free radical in exerting cytotoxic activity against HeLa (human cervical cancer), Caco-2 (human colorectal adenocarcinoma), MCF-7 (human breast adenocarcinoma), CCRF-CEM (human T lymphoblast leukemia) and CEM/ADR5000 (adriamycin resistant leukemia) cancer cell lines;

* The most effective of the IC50 values are between 30-210 mg L-1.

These results suggested essential oil from fennel processed a great source of antioxidants with the function of balancing the ratio of free radicals in the body, thus preventing the initiation of oxidative stress.

Healthy Food Onion Protects Protect the Heart Against Chemo-Cardiotoxicity

Cardiotoxicity is a medical condition that causes damage to the heart muscle, leading to reduced heart muscles function to pump blood, and heart failure.

Long term intake of certain medication and people who are under treatment of chemotherapy have been found in most cases of cardiotoxicity.

However, people who are infected by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) genetic preposition, a malignant disease associated with the amyloid deposited on the heart or other organs, high blood pressure, untreated hyperthyroidism, and vitamin b2 deficiency are some of the most prevalent factors found in patients with cardiotoxicity.

Most common symptoms of cardiotoxicity are associated with not enough blood circulation in the body such as tiredness and fatigue, a long-term (chronic) cough, shortness of breath, floating due to the enlarged heart muscle, abnormal heart or lung sounds and swelling in your hands, feet, or unusual weight gain.

Conventionally, treatment of cardiotoxicity is totally depending on the types of the disease including
Beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors induce (widen) the arterial dilation and improvement of the blood flow and diuretics.

Some researchers in examining the risk of cardiotoxicity in patients with chemotherapy wrote, "Age and preexisting left ventricular dysfunction have been identified most consistently as being associated with the development of clinical heart failure or a worsening of left ventricular function with chemotherapy".

And, ""Other cardiovascular conditions, including hypertension, diabetes, and coronary artery disease, are also associated with the risk of cardiotoxicity".

On finding a potent ingredient that processes cardio-protective activity researchers examined the effects of extracts from edible wild onion species, Allium flavum, and Allium carinatum, which reduce side effects of cytostatic doxorubicin (Dox).

In human hepatoma (HepG2) and lung carcinoma (A549) cells, the methanol extracts exhibited high levels of antioxidant activity and worked synergistically to increased Dox anticancer activity, without affecting the health of normal cells.

Furthermore, antioxidative enzymes level such as catalase and superoxide dismutases in the cancer cells was also suppressed by the chemicals, compared to normal cells upon applied treatments.

In the toxicity assays on the zebrafish model, the chemical extracts isolated from edible wild onion species processes lower toxicity compared to Dox, with no teratogenic effects at applied doses.

Most importantly, the extracts not only successfully protect the Dox-treated embryos of life-threatening cardiomyopathy but also reduced developmental toxicity and neutropenia. in the zebrafish model.

Additionally, the extracts also processed a higher anti-angiogenic activity compared to those of antiangiogenic drugs such as sunitinib or auranofin.

Taken altogether, onion extracts may be considered a remedy for the prevention and treatment of cardio-toxicity, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Ginger, the Best for the Prevention and Treatment of Metabolic Dysfunction with No Side Effects

Scientists may have found a pungent spice which processes a potential to reverse metabolic dysfunction,
according to studies.

Metabolic dysfunction is a medical condition characterized by the improper function of the liver or pancreas.

In some cases, metabolic dysfunction may also be caused by enzyme deficiency due to a defective gene, including Antitrypsin (AAT) deficiency, a common metabolic liver disease that affects infants, children, and adults.

The liver, the large organ in human plays a critical role in breaking down old or damaged blood cells. and a central role in all metabolic processes, including fat metabolism by breaking down fat to energy for the body's needs.

On the other hand, the pancreas also converts the food we eat into energy for the body's cells by regulating blood glucose through the production of insulin.

Dysfunction of one of the 2 organs not only has strong impacts on the energy levels in the body but also increases the risk of diabetes and nonalcoholic liver disease.

According to the statistics provided by the Center for Diseases Control and Prevention, in the US, among adults aged 18 years or older, the prevalence of metabolic syndrome rose by more than 35% from 1988–1994 to 2007–2012, increasing from 25.3% to 34.2%. The rise of metabolic dysfunction is probably associated with the widespread obesity in the general population, some researchers suggested.

The risk factors associated with the onset of metabolic dysfunction include workers exposed to natural asbestos and to mixed asbestos stock dust, improper nutrition, excessive intake of food with a high content of free sugar, saturated fatty acids and common salt with lack of chicken meat, cereals, fish, vegetables, fruits, and cultured milk foods in the diet and excessive body weight.

Most people with metabolic dysfunction do not experience any symptoms. However, if you have a large waist circumference and experience symptoms of high blood glucose, increased thirst and urination, fatigue, and blurred vision, you may have a metabolic disorder. Please check with your doctor to rule out the possibility.

Researchers on finding a natural compound for the modulation of metabolism evaluated the effects and the mechanisms of ginger extract intake in the metabolic disturbances animal model. Mice selected for the study were induced metabolic dysfunction by a high-refined carbohydrate (HC) diet.

Ginger extract at doses of 200, 600, and 1800 mg/kg supplemented in the daily food of obese Balb/c mice for an 8-week showed a metabolic protective effect by preventing the increase of adiposity induced by HC diet, improving lipid profile, and promoting the decrease of inflammatory markers.

Furthermore, treated mice also exerted the decrease in the recruitment of cells visualized in vivo in the microvasculature of adipose tissue, a decrease of inflammatory cytokines, and an increase of adiponectin serum levels.

The finding suggested that ginger process anti metabolic dysfunction in obese mice induced by long-term high-refined carbohydrate (HC) diet.

In order to reveal more information about ginger anti-metabolic syndrome activity, used in traditional medicine, researchers examined the herbal effects on hyperlipidemia, hyperglycemia, oxidative stress, and inflammation.

Ginger showed a potency activity in reducing the onset of metabolic syndrome through
mediating the several transcription factors associated with the metabolic function, including activated glucose and fatty acid uptake.

The results indicated the beneficial effects of ginger on obesity and related complications in MetS.

Taken altogether, ginger may be considered a functional remedy for the prevention and treatment of metabolic dysfunction, pending to the confirmation of larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Healthy Food Onion Protects the Upper Aerodigestive Tract (UADT) Against the Risk of Cancer

Aerodigestive tract is the combined organs and tissues of the respiratory tract and the upper part of the digestive tract including the lip, tongue, major salivary glands, gums and adjacent oral cavity tissues, the floor of the mouth, tonsils, oropharynx, nasopharynx, hypopharynx and other oral regions, nasal cavity, accessory sinuses, middle ear, and larynx.

Cancer is a class of diseases characterized by irregular cell growth in the tissue of a specific organ due to the alternation of cell DNA.

The upper aerodigestive tract cancer a type of invasive cancer that starts in the cell on the surface of the inner lining of the aerodigestive tract before proliferating to a deeper layer to form a tumor.

According to the statistics provided by the Scottish Health Service, upper aerodigestive tract cancer accounts for approximately 4% of all malignancies with cancers of salivary glands, gums, nasopharynx, and nasal cavity and accessory sinuses. Epidermoid carcinomas account for greater than 95% of all cases.

Epidemiologically, aging, male gender, ethnicity are some of the most common prevalent factors associated with the incidences.

The 5-year relative survival rate of the upper aerodigestive tract (UADT) was approximately 50%, depending on the type of UADT.

Dr. F. Bravi, the lead scientist in the examination of the diet patterns in the risk of UADT wrote, "
The most consistent findings are the beneficial role of a dietary pattern based on fruit and vegetables or nutrients mostly contained in such foods, and the unfavorable role of an alcohol drinker pattern. A possible unfavorable role of patterns based on meats and animal products emerged as well".

The onion is a plant in the genus Allium, belongings to the family Alliaceae, a close relation of garlic. It is often called the "king of vegetables" because of its pungent taste and found in a large number of recipes and preparations spanning almost the totality of the world's cultures.

Depending on the variety, an onion can be sharp, spicy, tangy, pungent, mild or sweet.

On finding a potent compound for the prevention and treatment of gastrointestinal tract cancer, researchers examined the effect of total allium, garlic, and onion intake on the risk of cancer of the upper aerodigestive tract (UADT).

The study identified 21 case-control and four cohort studies through the searching data of published observational studies, using a meta-analytic approach and random-effects models.

* The overall relative risks (RR) for the squamous cell carcinoma of the UADT were 0.72 (95% CI 0.57-0.91) for onion for the highest versus the lowest consumption.

* Onion showed a strong inverse relation in case-control studies with the RR of 0.56.

* In Chinese studies onion showed a lesser effect compared to garlic for esophageal than for head and neck cancers.

* Believe it or not, there was no relation between allium vegetable intake and adenocarcinoma of the esophagus.

These results strongly suggested that onion process a significant anti-upper aerodigestive tract (UADT) cancer effect, depending on the types of gastrointestinal tract cancer.

Collectively, researchers after taking other factors into account wrote, "We found a moderate inverse association between allium vegetable intake and the risk of squamous cell carcinoma of the UADT in case-control studies".

Taken altogether, onion processed a higher mount of onionin A (ONA) may be considered a remedy for the treatment of upper aerodigestive tract cancer effect, depending on the types of UADT, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
