Urologic cancers are a class of medical conditions including
*Prostate cancer is a condition in which the cells of the prostate have become cancerous, causing abnormal cell growth with the possibility of spreading to the distant parts of the body.
Most prostate cancers are slow-growing and enlarged prostate and prostate cancer may be detected during physical (rectum) exams.
* Kidney cancer is a medical condition characterized by irregular cell growth in the tissue of kidneys.
At the later stage, the cancerous cells may travel a distance way to infect other organs' tissues.
For example, if kidney cancer spreads to the lung is called kidney cancer with lung metastases.
* Bladder cancer
The bladder is a hollow elastic organ in the center of the lower abdomen that collects urine from the kidneys and excreted them through the urethra.
Bladder cancer is the most common type of cancer that affects men twice as frequently as it affects women.
* Cancer of the renal pelvis and ureter is a cancer of renal pelvis on the top part of the ureter and the ureter which is a long tube that connects the kidney to the bladder
* Testicle cancer
Testicular Cancer is cancer that arises in the testicles (testes), located inside the scrotum. testicles form part of the male reproductive system, responding to the production and reproduction of male sex hormones and sperm.
* Cancer of the penis
Penis cancer is a type of irregular cell growth formed in the tissues of the penis.
* Urethra cancer
Urethral cancer is a type of medical condition caused by the growth of malignant cells in tissues of the urethra, the tube that carries urine from the bladder and out of the body.
The most common symptoms of urologic cancers are the difficulty starting to urinate or difficulty holding urine back, weak urine stream or interruption of stream, painful urination, pelvic discomfort, bone pain, erectile dysfunction (ED), painful ejaculation, blood in the urine and blood in the semen.
The joint study led by the National Cancer Center, Goyang, Korea, wrote, "During 1999-2012 (In Korean), urological cancer occurred in 155,991 patients (Table 1). The most common cancer was prostate cancer (66,812 patients) followed by bladder cancer (41,549 patients), kidney cancer (36,836 patients), renal pelvis and ureter cancer (7,537 patients), testis cancer (2,439 patients), and penile cancer (818 patients)".
Broccoli is a mustard/cabbage plant, belongings to the family Brassicaceae. The veggie has large flower heads, usually green in color and the mass of flower heads surrounded by leaves and evolved from a wild cabbage plant on the continent of Europe.
On finding a potential plant that processes anticarcinogenic activity, researchers examined the effects sulforaphane (SF), a natural compound sulforaphane (SFN) anti-urologic cancer effects.
According to the tested analysis, the application of SFN shows a remarkable anti-tumor effect in vitro and in vivo without exerting toxicity.
Furthermore, based on available evidence from epidemiological, in vitro, preclinical and early phase trials, SFN was not only available in standardized formulations, bioavailable- both systemically and in the bladder but also exerted a significant anti bladder cancer through multiple mechanisms.
Additionally, similar to its effects on urological cancer, SFN induced cancer apoptosis without causing cytotoxicity.
Collectively, researchers said, "sulforaphane (SFN) represents a promising potential chemopreventative agent in bladder cancer".
Taken altogether, Broccoli processed abundant bioactive compound SFN, which may be considered a functional food for the prevention and treatment of urologic tumors, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
