Obesity and infertility management in women with polycystic ovary syndrome
Obesity has become a worldwide epidemic with ever increasing incidence and public health problems in both developing and developed countries. According to the Kuwait University, in the study of 270 of women with polycystic ovarian syndrome attending the infertility clinic were evaluated clinically, biochemically, and laparoscopically, posted in PubMed, indicated that significantly more obese women had oligomenorrhoea (p<0.01) and anovulation (p<0.01) than women with normal weight. Obesity adversely affected the outcome of ovulation induction with clomiphene citrate and gonadotrophins; 79% of women with BMI 18-24 ovulated at 6 months compared to 15.3% in those with BMI 30-34 (p<0.001) and 11.8% in women with BMI > or = 35 (p<0.001). The pregnancy rate and outcome were also adversely affected by obesity.

Make Your Favorite Vegetarian Thai Recipes at Home

Eating out at Thai restaurants can be very difficult for vegetarians since so many Thai dishes are flavored with oyster sauce or fish sauce. Luckily, it's not too hard for you to make a handful of your favorite vegetarian Thai recipes yourself in your own home.
One very popular vegetarian Thai recipe that takes less than fifteen minutes to make on your own is Thai Spring Rolls. For this recipe, you need some spring roll wrappers, which are usually available in the fresh food section of your local grocery store. (If you cannot find them there, check your local Asian food store.) Mix together bean sprouts, chopped green cabbage and green onions, grated carrots, and some cooked thin rice noodles. If you want to make your spring rolls even more filling, you can add some pieces of scrambled eggs and grilled tofu. Flavor this mixture with some basil, mint, soy sauce, and lime juice. Soak the spring roll wrappers in cold water for ten to twenty seconds, or until you can bend them. Spoon some of the mixture into each spring roll wrapper and roll. Serve with some soy sauce to dip your Thai spring rolls.
Another choice when looking for vegetarian Thai recipes is tofu satay with peanut sauce and cucumber salad. Peanut sauce is something that can be bought from a grocery store; just make sure you read the ingredients to make sure that it's actually vegetarian. Cucumber salad, though, is something that you'll have to make yourself. Slice a seedless cucumber and a small red onion into thin pieces. Toss with rice wine vinegar, sugar, and salt, and put in the refrigerator for around thirty minutes to allow the flavors to blend together. In the meantime, cut up tofu into bite size pieces and thread onto bamboo skewers that have been soaking in water for at least fifteen minutes. Brush the tofu with a mixture of soy sauce and chili paste to flavor it. (Use less chili paste if you don't like a lot of spice.) Grill the skewers and serve with the peanut sauce and cucumber salad.
A final choice when trying your hand at creating a variety of vegetarian Thai recipes is to make Pad Thai. While it looks like it would be hard to make, it's actually pretty easy. All you need to do is cook up some flat rice noodles and toss in a mixture of sugar, vinegar, soy sauce, and water. Add a bunch of vegetables (mushrooms, shredded carrots, bean sprouts), and some scrambled egg and cubed tofu, and stir-fry until the whole dish is warm. Sprinkle the whole dish with ground up peanuts, and you have a dish fit for a restaurant, but without any meat or meat-based sauces.
You can make similar substitutions in any Thai recipe to create your own at-home version of vegetarian Thai recipes. Anytime a recipe calls for meat, you can substitute with tofu. And, instead of using oyster sauce or fish sauce, you can mix up some soy sauce with some Thai chili paste to give yourself a similar flavor without any meat. With these easy recipes, you'll always be able to enjoy your favorite vegetarian Thai recipes without any concern about any meat getting mixed in.

Obesity has been associated with impaired fecundity. According to the study by the Seacroft Hospital,  Posted in PubMed, obese women, particularly those with central obesity, are less likely to conceive per cycle. Obese women suffer perturbations to the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis, menstrual cycle disturbance and are up to three times more likely to suffer oligo-/anovulation. A fine hormonal balance regulates follicular development and oocyte maturation, and it has been observed that obesity can alter the hormonal milieu. Leptin, a hormone produced by adipocytes, is elevated in obese women, and raised leptin has been associated with impaired fecundity. Obesity impairs ovulation but has also been observed to detrimentally affect endometrial development and implantation. The expression of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is regulated, in part, by weight, and so obese women with PCOS often have a more severe phenotype and experience more subfertility. Obesity also impairs the response of women to assisted conception treatments. Weight loss through lifestyle modification or bariatric surgery has been demonstrated to restore menstrual cyclicity and ovulation and improve the likelihood of conception.

The main factors implicated in the association may be insulin excess and insulin resistance. These adverse effects of obesity are specifically evident in polycystic ovary syndrome.

There is no doubt that being a vegan is a challenging lifestyle. Vegans, for their own personal reasons, will do their best in staying away from any and all animal byproduct. For some, this includes both their food and clothing. What's The Difference In Vegan Tofu Recipes?
To those whom are non-vegetarian or non-vegan, it can seem a little confusing. It may even seem like the same thing. In fact, both types of people will buy the exact product at the store. However, its in the way in which it is prepared that will make all the difference in the world. This is how it obtains its name, either vegetarian or vegan. What Can I Do To Keep It Vegan?
The process to use in order to keep tofu strictly vegan is pretty simple to understand. Just don't cook the tofu with any animal byproducts. But a word of caution is needed here. If you want to make a stir fry or any other recipe for that matter, you need to look at the ingredients from which things like noodles are made. If eggs are included in the ingredients, then they will not qualify as a vegan dish. Body weight at age 20 years and breast cancer risk

Body weight at age 20 years and  breast cancer risk
Many studies have investigated the association between BMI at age 20 years (BMI20y) and breast cancer risk with consideration to estrogen/progesterone receptor status (ER/PR). In the study to investigate the the association between BMI20y and ER/PR-defined breast cancer risk among 41,594 women in the population-based Japan Public Health Center, posted in PubMed, showed that BMI and subsequent BMI gain were not associated with increased risk among premenopausal women, but were substantially associated with increased risk among postmenopausal women [corresponding RR(recent BMI)=1.31 (95%CI=1.07-1.59); RR(subsequent BMI gain)=1.32 (95%CI=1.09-1.60)]. In subanalyses by receptor status (∼50% of cases), the observed inverse association of BMI20y with risk was consistent with the result for ER-PR- [0.49 (95%CI=0.27-0.88)], while the observed positive associations of BMI gain with postmenopausal breast cancer risk appeared to be confined to ER+PR+ tumors [corresponding RR(for subsequent BMI gain)=2.24 (95%CI=1.50-3.34)]. Low BMI at age 20 years was substantially associated with an increased risk of breast cancer. In contrast, high recent BMI and subsequent BMI gain from age 20 were associated with increased risk of postmenopausal ER+PR+ tumors.

Easy Tofu Recipe to Brighten Your Vegetarian Cooking

Nothing can bring home that wonderful taste of Italy like a good helping of home cooked spaghetti. Perhaps you have found that spaghetti at your local restaurant or Olive Garden style chain just isn't quite what the doctor ordered. The store bought brands are even worse -. watery and weak! Of course, for those of us wishing to add spaghetti into our vegetarian lifestyle, the choices can be even more depressing. Unless you favor tomato water as the sauce for your noodles, the absence of ground beef can really make a difference in the taste of your homemade spaghetti sauce. Thankfully, with the substitution of tofu, homemade spaghetti sauce can retake its place in the healthy vegetarian diet. Here is one recipe you can use to liven up your vegetarian dinner, and enjoy a delicious spaghetti meal without watering down your sauce.
Ingredients:
3 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons roasted garlic
1 lb tofu
Two 28 oz cans crushed tomatoes
Two 6 oz cans tomato paste
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon oregano
1 tablespoon salt
½ teaspoon thyme
1 tablespoon basil
1 tablespoon sugar
Thin spaghetti noodles
Begin by placing a skillet on a medium heat eye, with your olive oil and roasted garlic in the center. Allow this mixture to heat up, stirring until it begins to sizzle. At this point, add your tofu and allow it to cook and soak in the mixture, stirring and chopping the tofu as you cook. Once the tofu is fully cooked, drain it in a colander and dump the ground cooked tofu into a pot. Add to the tofu your tomato paste and crushed tomatoes, along with the pepper, oregano, salt, thyme, basil, and sugar. Stir this mixture up thoroughly and turn the heat on the eye down to almost low. Place the pot on the eye and allow the mixture to heat up and simmer for at least thirty minutes. The longer the better. Boil your noodles according to the directions on the box, strain them, and your spaghetti is ready to serve. Should serve three to four individuals. Serve with garlic bread if desired.

Hip circumference and the risk of premenopausal ER-/PR- breast cancer

Hip circumference and the risk of premenopausal ER-/PR- breast cancer
In the study using data from the French E3N longitudinal prospective cohort, to evaluate the relationship between hip and waist circumferences (HCs, WCs), waist-to-hip ratio, height, weight and body mass index (BMI) and breast cancer risk according to menopausal status of women and cancer hormone receptor status, by the Center for Research in Epidemiology and Population Health, posted in PubMed, found that among postmenopausal women, the risk of ER+/PR+ breast cancer increased with increasing weight, BMI, and both HCs and WCs, although these two associations disappeared after adjustment for BMI. No association was seen with ER-/PR- breast cancers. Among premenopausal women, among the different factors studied, HC only (no association was observed for any of the different factors studied except for HC) was associated with an increased risk of ER+/PR+ breast cancer after adjustment for BMI (hazard ratio (HR)=1.65; (1.04-2.62) when comparing the highest to lowest tertile; P-trend across tertiles=0.03) and of ER-/PR- breast cancer both before and after adjustment for BMI (HR=2.85 (1.33-6.13); P-trend <0.01, and HR=3.13 (1.19-8.27) P-trend =0.02, respectively). In the latter group, the association with HC was observed whatever the WC (HR=2.81 (1.18-6.70) and HR=2.79 (1.16-6.76) in women with high HC/low WC and high HC/high WC, respectively).

Abdominal adiposity is associated with metabolic and hormonal changes, many of which have been associated with the risk of premenopausal breast cancer.  In the study to investigate the association between body fat distribution, assessed in 1993 by self-reported waist circumference, hip circumference, and waist to hip ratio, and the incidence of premenopausal breast cancer in the Nurses' Health Study II, by the Harvard School of Public Health, posted in PubMed, indicated that during 426,164 person-years of follow-up from 1993 to 2005, 620 cases of breast cancer were diagnosed among 45,799 women. Hormone receptor status information was available for 84% of the breast cancers. The age-standardized incidence rates of breast cancer were 131 per 100,000 person-years among those in the lowest quintile of waist circumference and 136 per 100,000 person-years among those in the highest quintile. No statistically significant associations were found between waist circumference, hip circumference, or the waist to hip ratio and risk of breast cancer. However, each of the three body fat distribution measures was statistically significantly associated with greater incidence of estrogen receptor (ER)-negative breast cancer.

2 Quick and Easy Vegetarian Recipes

Today I'd like to introduce you to two popular vegetarian dishes in my house, oft-requested favorites even though none of us are officially vegetarians.
Instead, we chose to incorporate some vegetarian meals into our diets purely because of the health and environmental benefits of not eating so much meat. At least, my wife decided - if it was up to me, we'd have steak everyday. Still, the benefits of eating vegetarian are obvious, but there's a heavy social stigma still attached to anything labeled 'vegetarian' and I'd like to dispel that today by showing you vegetarian food can actually be just as delicious as meat, too!
Firstly, let me say I won't be using Quorn or Tofu as a meat substitute, because it isn't a meat substitute and never will be. Anyone who tells you they "honestly can't tell the difference" probably shouldn't be trusted. Instead, learn to appreciate Tofu in it's naturally form, not reconstituted and flavored to look like meat. It took me until I was 25 to learn that Tofu actually tastes nice just as it is, thanks to a devout meat-eating upbringing and vegetarianism ridiculed at the dinner table.
So what are we going to make?
Tofu BBQ Skewers:
I like this recipe because nothing can really taste bad once it's been BBQed and got a little sauce on it. It's easy to prepare, all fresh ingredients, and oh so healthy. Oh, and the kids will eat it too!
Ingredients:
- 1 pack of Tofu (may be labeled "hydrated soy" - how delicious sounding!)
- 1 punnet of button mushrooms
- 1 red and 1 yellow pepper
- Some garlic
- Olive oil
- BBQ Skewers
If you're having trouble finding real Tofu and not the imitation meat stuff, try the local Asian supermarket. They sell little packs that are the perfect size for 2 people. It comes in white squares, about an inch deep, and usually swimming in it's own juices. Lovely...
Prep is simple for this one, just chop it all up and stick it onto a skewer. Crush the garlic into the olive oil, then drizzle and coat the skewers all around (not too much). Salt and pepper to taste.
Parsnip and Parmesan Bruschetta:
An Italian snack favorite, this one is also super easy.
Ingredients:
- 1 mini ciabatta or panini roll, cut into 12 smaller sli
- 1 garlic clove
- 50g butter
- 3 large parsnips, cored and cut into 1cm cubed.
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- A handful of rocket leaves
- 50g parmesan cheese (or a vegaternative if you prefer)
Preparation:
Heat a griddle pan and toast the bread for about 2 minutes until golden and marked. Rub a clove of garlic over each piece.
Heat some butter in a large frying pan then fry the parsnips over a medium heat for about 20 minutes until they are softened. Add a little if you need. Remove and mash to a puree in a mixer. Should be served at a room temperature, so leave it to cool down if needed (or warm up if you already prepared it).
Spread the parsnip on the toast, and garnish with some rocket leaves and parmesan. Voila! A deliciously easy canapee for your party!

Gestational diabetes, pre-pregnancy obesity and pregnancy weight gain in relation to excess fetal growth

The prevalence of childbearing age obesity is wide spreading in US, approximately, 50% of them are either overweight [body mass index (BMI) 25-29.9 kg/m(2)] or obese (BMI ≥ 30 kg/m(2)).
The escalating rate of childhood obesity is a public health concern worldwide, with children in certain ethnic groups being disproportionately affected. In the study to  to examine the joint effects of pre-pregnancy adiposity, pregnancy weight gain and gestational diabetes (GDM) in relation to excess fetal growth and to identify susceptible races or ethnic populations, by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, posted in PubMed, indicated that GDM, pre-pregnancy obesity and excessive pregnancy weight gain were jointly associated with elevated risk of giving birth to an LGA infant and the effects varied by race. This suggests that those involved in public health efforts aimed at preventing LGA deliveries should consider variations in racial groups when devising effective strategies.

Delicious And Nutritious Japanese Fried Tofu Recipe

Fried tofu is a popular Japanese cuisine. Preparation is simple and easy. Fried tofu is known for its delicious taste, high nutritional value and low calorie content. In the West, tofu probably is one of the most popular Asian products. There are many different kinds of ways to prepare tofu. Tofu can be prepared as a main dish or can also be used as an ingredient to compliment other recipes. There are several types of tofu available. Some are sold fresh, some are sold boiled, steamed or fried.
Here is delicious recipe for tofu that is very easy to prepare.
Fried Tofu (for two)
Ingredients:
- Two tofu blocks
- One cup of Dashi (you can use beef bullion broth if dashi is not available)
-Two tablespoons of soy sauce
-Two tablespoons of mirin (if mirin is not available, you can use sweet Japanese rice wine, white wine will work too)
- Mix one tablespoon of corn starch in a small amount of water
- Use this corn starch to coat tofu
- One tablespoon of grated ginger
- Arrange to decorate
- Cooking oil
Preparation:
- Place the tofu in a flat plate, on a kitchen paper towel or on a soft cloth to cut.
- Put a kitchen paper on top of the tofu and place another flat plate on top of the kitchen paper. Slowly lift the plate and gently tun it sideways to let excess water off the tofu. Be careful not to crush the tofu when you are doing this.
- On the side, Prepare the dashi, mirin and soy sauce using a deep casserole or pan. Heat the casserole or pan and as soon as it boils, add corn starch and water, mix well.
- Now dry the tofu using a kitchen paper towel or a soft cloth and slice them in half. Lightly coat the tofu with corn starch.
- In a sauce pan, place plenty of cooking oil and fry the tofu until it turns to golden brown in color.
- Remove the sauce pan from the flame. Place the tofu on kitchen paper towels to remove excess cooking oil and place in a bowl.
- Add the sauce prepared previously on the tofu. Gently sprinkle a small amount of grated ginger on the tofu.
- You can also add grated radish, pepper, fish flakes, or some green if you like.
Goes well with white rice. Serve hot and enjoy.

Obesity and gastroschisis in young maternal age
Young maternal age has been associated with an increased risk of gastroschisis, while high maternal weight status has been associated with a decreased risk. In the study to evaluate the joint effect of these two risk factors to identify thresholds in risk associated with body mass index (BMI) for a given age, from the data from the National Birth Defects Prevention Study included 464 case infants with gastroschisis and 4842 healthy controls, by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, posted in PubMed, showed that women who are younger and who have lower BMI are at the greatest risk; a woman with a BMI of 17 who gives birth at age 15 has 7 times the odds (adjusted odds ratio = 7.0 [95% CI 4.2, 11.5]) of having an offspring with gastroschisis compared with a woman of age 24 with a BMI of 23. Furthermore, there was an interaction between maternal age and BMI for this risk. The increased risk of low maternal age and prepregnancy BMI associated with gastroschisis appears to suggest an aetiological role related to biological immaturity for this particular birth defect.
