Yoga ameliorated symptoms and complications of a patient with Schizophrenia, particular in improved postural stability, a renowned institute reported.
Schizophrenia is a mental disorder induced inconsistent or contradictory elements such as the breakdown of certain relation in thought, emotion, and behavior, leading to faulty perception, inappropriate actions, and feelings,...
Yoga, the ancient technique practice is used in parts of India to promote the body to heal itself through enhancing the physical and mental well being.
According to the Keio University School of Medicine, patients with schizophrenia-spectrum disorders showed a significant improvement in risk of falling that may lead to fractures, after attending the yoga lessons.
In an 8 week single-blind randomized controlled study with an eight-week follow-up of outpatients with schizophrenia or related psychotic disorder (ICD-10) randomly assigned to either yoga therapy or a control group, yoga treatment group expressed a significant improvement in a total length of trunk motion, the Romberg ratio(a set feature in the sensory organization test (SOT) as an indicator of proprioceptive contribution to postural stability), and anteflexion in standing after 8 weeks in compared control.
Dr. Ikai S, the lead author said, "the beneficial effects of yoga therapy on postural stability in patients with schizophrenia. However, the therapeutic effects seemed transient, which warrants further investigations on strategies to sustain the improvements.".
Furthermore, in the review of the database of the Cochrane Schizophrenia Group Trials Register (December 2008), based on regular searches of CINAHL, EMBASE, MEDLINE, and PsycINFO,
yoga had a better outcome for the mental state as well as physical health improved significantly in the exercise group compared to those in standard care.
The study also indicated that besides enhanced mental and physical well being, yoga therapy also improved the quality of life in patients with schizophrenia.
Taking together, there is no doubt that yoga has a potential effect on reduced postural physical disability and promoted quality of life in patients with schizophrenia with no adverse effects.

Herbal Turmeric Protects the Cells Integrity and Viability Against Arsenic Exposure
Arsenic is a toxic chemical with atomic number 33 found in many minerals, usually in combination with other chemicals, including sulfur and metals.
Arsenic exposure can be acute or chronic
* Acute arsenic toxicity is caused by arsenic toxicity that induces symptoms of nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and severe diarrhea. In severe cases, the acute condition also causes encephalopathy and peripheral neuropathy.
* Chronic arsenic toxicity results in multisystem disease.
Some studies suggested that inorganic arsenic has been found to act as a human carcinogen in the initiation of progression of skin, lung, and bladder cancer.
Chronic arsenic toxicity is also associated with liver and prostate cancer.
Recent studies suggested chronic arsenic toxicity also have a positive link to diabetes, neurological effects, cardiac disorders, and reproductive organs.
In skin cancer, exposure to trivalent arsenite was found to be associated with the occurrence of UV-induced skin cancers.
In Lung cancer, according to some studies, the risk of lung cancer is consistently higher in groups exposed to arsenic compared to a group that does not.
In bladder cancer, a recent study suggested that exposure to low concentrations of arsenic is related to bladder cancer because of potentially insufficient statistical power and errors in the classification of exposure status.
In liver cancer, risk of the liver is increased substantially at an arsenic concentration that is above 0.64, according to the 20-year retrospective cohort study on liver cancer patients (802 male and 301 female) from 138 communities in Taiwan suggested.
In prostate cancer, the relative odds ratio is increased depending on the concentration of arsenic concentration.
In other diseases
* Neurological disease
Risk of neurological disease is directly associated with the arsenic concentration, including neurobehavioral abnormalities during puberty, and neurobehavioral changes as an adult.
* Diabetes
The link of arsenic exposure and the incidence of diabetes has been reported between type 2 diabetes occurring in obese individuals aged 40 years or older on inorganic arsenic exposure.
* Skin disorder
Exposure to various concentrations of arsenic promotes skin cancer risk and is related to disorders in the prodromal phases of skin cancer.
* In cardiovascular disease
Arsenic affects thrombocytes in the initiation of cardiovascular diseases.
Turmeric is a perennial plant in the genus Curcuma, belonging to the family Zingiberaceae, native to tropical South Asia.
The herb has been used in traditional medicine as anti-oxidant, hypoglycemic, colorant, antiseptic, wound healing agent, and for the treatment of flatulence, bloating, and appetite loss, ulcers, eczema, inflammations, etc.
On finding a potential compound for the treatment of diseases associated with arsenic toxicity, researchers examined the effects of curcumin on DNA damage caused by arsenic.
In peripheral blood lymphocytes, from a healthy donor, DNA damage induced by arsenic was significantly reduced by curcumin, observed by the interaction of lymphocytes pre-incubated with curcumin prior to arsenic insult.
Furthermore, arsenic caused DNA damage by the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and enhancement of lipid peroxidation level was inhibited by the administration of curcumin by increasing the level of phase II detoxification enzymes like catalase, superoxide dismutase, and glutathione peroxidase.
Moreover, injection of curcumin also enhanced the DNA repair activity against arsenic-induced damage, observed by the increased expression of the polymerase, a repair enzyme.
Based on the finding, Dr. Mukherjee S, the lead scientist said, "curcumin has a significant role in confronting the deleterious effect caused by arsenic, which could be an economic model of arsenic mitigation".
In the joint study led by the West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences to evaluate the ameliorative effect of turmeric and ginger powder against experimentally induced arsenic toxicity in calves, researchers showed that
* Turmeric and ginger powder significantly (P<0.05) reduced the plasma and hair arsenic levels through increased excretion via feces and urine.
* Turmeric and ginger treated groups inhibited the increased activity of AST and ALT of oxidative stress markers caused by arsenic toxicity.
* Blood profiles associated with toxicity also ameliorated by the administration of the combined formula.
* The Levels antioxidant enzymes produced by the host that was depressed by arsenic exposure were also increased by the treatment of turmeric and ginger treated groups.
Based on the results, researchers wrote, "The test drugs are found significantly effective not only to eliminate arsenic from the body but also give protection from possible damage caused by arsenic exposure".
Taken altogether, turmeric processed abundantly bioactive compound curcumin may be considered supplements for the prevention and treatment of diseases associated with chronic arsenic exposure, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
Intake of turmeric in the form of supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Yoga, in The Early Onset and Treatment of Hyperglycemia
Yoga, the accident technique practice for harmonized external and internal body well being, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement, and gesture..... has been well known for people in the Western world and some parts in Asia due to health benefits reported by various respectable institutes' research and supported by health advocates.
Hyperlipidemia is a condition of abnormal high cholesterol in the bloodstream and considered as an early signed of heart disease developing.
Short term yoga lessons showed a strong impact on some of the biochemical indicators, such as high blood cholesterol and glucose in increased risk for cardiovascular disease and diabetes mellitus.
In a study based on the collection of data of 98 subjects (67 male, 31 female), ages 20-74 years, who attended one of our programs with hypertension, coronary artery disease, diabetes mellitus, and a variety of other illnesses, yoga participants showed a significant in lower serum total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, very- LDL cholesterol and and total triglycerides with improvement of the ratio of total cholesterol to high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, on the last day of the course compared to the first day of the course.
According to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, yoga attendees experienced also a decreased fasting plasma glucose and serum lipoprotein profile through analysis of blood profile.
Additionally, a study of an outpatient facility at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, a tertiary health care center, also showed an improvement of blood cholesterol through increased levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol in a duration of 10 days of yoga class.
Dr. Yadav RK, the lead author said, (in) 38 participants (147 women, 91 men, 38.81±11.40 years) included in the study said, "There was a significant increase in HDL-c levels from baseline to day 10 (42.93±5.00 vs 43.52±5.07 mg/dL, P = 0.043). Notably, HDL-c was significantly improved in those for whom the baseline HDL-c levels were lower than the recommended values".
In support of the above differentiation, study of yoga effect on glucose metabolism and blood lipid levels of 90 adolescents aged between 15 and 18 years who met the Rotterdam criteria for PCOS conducted the Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (SVYSA) University showed an improving glucose, lipid, and insulin values, including insulin resistance values, in adolescent girls with PCOS independent of anthropometric changes in compared conventional physical exercises group.
Collectively, There is no doubt that yoga may be used as a therapeutic treatment in reduced risk of hyperlipidemia and reduced risk of early onset of cardiovascular disease and diabetes induced by abnormally high blood cholesterol.

Healthy Food Cucumber, the Anti-Bacterial Infection Functional Food
Infection is a condition that leads to inflammation caused by the invasion of a microbial organism on body tissues
The bacterial infection is the infection caused by bacteria. Most cases of bacterial infection are treated with antibiotics. However, bacteria are very adaptable, overuse of antibiotics has made many of them resistant to antibiotics.
There are trillions of strains of bacteria in the world, but only a few of these cause diseases in humans. Some of them live inside our gut.
Most common symptoms of bacterial infection include redness and heat, swelling, fever, pain at the site of infection.
In severe cases, the patient may also experience symptoms of swollen lymph glands.
Most cases of bacterial infection can be treated successfully if the types of bacteria that cause the infection are identified.
There are many risk factors associated with the onset of bacterial infection, some researchers suggested that people with a weakened immune system may increase the prevalence of bacterial infection.
Dr. Doyon PR, the lead scientist wrote, "Patients with a weakened immune system due to immunosuppressive treatment are at increased risk of infection with Streptococcus pneumoniae".
And, " in patients treated with immunosuppressive medication and compared to controls, the initial serologic response to the pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) and pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPSV) is impaired. Moreover, this impaired response was more profound after PCV than after PPSV".
The cucumber plant is a species of Cucumis Sativus, belongs to the family Cucurbitaceae and native to Western Asia. It is a creeping vine with roots in the ground and grows up with the support of frames.
With an aim to find a natural antibiotic for the treatment of bacterial infection, researchers compared the effect of potassium phosphite (KPhi) and chitosan on Cucurbitacin E (CuE) concentration in different tissues of Cucumis sativus against E.coli PTCC 1399 and Pseudomonas aeruginosa PTCC 1430 bacterial strains.
The experiment includes* Group1. Leaves were sprayed with distilled water (Control),
* Group 2. The leaves were solely treated with potassium phosphate (KPhi),
* Group 3. Leaves were solely sprayed with chitosan (Chitosan), and
* Group 4. Leaves were treated with KPhi and chitosan (KPhi + chitosan).
Where the KPhi (2 g L-1) and chitosan (0.2 g L-1) were applied twice every 12 h for one day. Fruits, roots, and leaves were harvested 24 h later.
According to the results of antibacterial activity in each group, the highest level of CuE was found in fruit (2.2 g L-1) of plants under concomitant applications of KPhi and chitosan.
In other words, under the infected stage, fruit extract exhibited the highest potential for activity against E. coli PTCC 1399 (with a mean zone of inhibition equal to 36 mm) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa PTCC 1430 (with a mean zone of inhibition equal to 33 mm).
Based on the findings, researchers concluded, "KPhi and chitosan can induce production of CuE compound and increase the antibacterial potential of cucumber plant extract".
Additionally, researchers in the examination of cucumber seed antibacterial effect also found that besides acting as natural antibiotics without affecting nearby healthy cells, cucumber seed also has strong activity in improving good bacteria in the gut.
Precisely, cucumber seed enhanced the total number of gut bacteria and altered the abundance of specific bacterial phylum or genus.
Taken altogether, cucumber and its bioactive compound cucurbitacin B (CuB) may be used for the treatment of bacterial infection, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
Intake of CuB in the form of supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Yoga in Prevention and Treatment of Binge Eating Disorder
Yoga may be used as an integrated form of exercise for prevent and treatment of binge eating disorder, a Catholic University of Leuven study suggested.
Binge eating disorder is a condition characterized by compulsive eating huge amounts of food while feeling out of control and powerless to stop.
The syndrome is a common eating disorder in the United States, affecting 3.5% of females and 2% of males.
Yoga, the accident technique practice for harmonized external and internal body well being, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement, and gesture..... has been well known for people in the Western world and some parts in Asia due to health benefits reported by various respectable institutes' research and supported by health advocates.
In the review of literature from EMBASE, PsycINFO, PubMed, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Physiotherapy Evidence Database and Cochrane Library up to August 2012 for studies compared physical therapy with a placebo condition, control intervention or standard care, including 211 female community patients (age range: 25-63 years) met all selection criteria, researchers found that
1. Yoga participants showed a significantly reduced number of binges
2. Yoga group expressed a decrease in body mass index (BMI)
3. Yoga participants displayed insignificantly ameliorated depression compared to aerobic exercise and combined aerobic exercise and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) groups
Dr. Vancampfort D, the led author said, " Because of severe co-morbid psychiatric and physical conditions, binge eating disorder is one of the most difficult psychiatric conditions to treat. Both yoga and aerobic exercise have shown promise in reducing binge eating pathology and weight".
Other, also in searching databases of PubMed, PsychInfo, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Cochrane Library, Physiotherapy Evidence Database, the Dutch Journal of Psychiatry (Tijdschrift voor Psychiatrie), the Tijdschrift voor Vaktherapie and Actual Themata derived from psychomotor therapy screened for the period January 1994 to August 2011, 8 studies met the met the inclusion and exclusion criteria suggested that
1. Yoga lessons induced a significant weight loss to attendees
2. Yoga participants displayed fewer symptoms of depression, when used alone or conjunction with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
3. Combined Yoga and CBT demonstrated a less eating disorder pathology than does CBT alone
The authors concluded that yoga expressed the beneficial effects on weight-loss as well as on the reduction of binge eating disorder.
More importantly, in a randomized trial undertaken with participants of women between 25 and 63 years of age identified with diagnostic criteria for binge eating disorder (BED) and a BMI>25 assigned to yoga (n=45) or wait-list control (n=45) groups. Of these, 25 in each group were analyzed, Dr. McIver S, the led author at the Deakin University filed the following results in compared to the control group
1. Yoga group showed a reduction in binge eating in self-reported
2. Yoga group expressed a statistical significance of more willing to involve in physical activity.
3. Yoga group also showed a small yet statistically significant reduction for BMI, hips and waist
With the information collected, there are no doubt that yoga formal weekly sessions and home-based programs are potentially efficacious for the treatment of binge eating.

Phytochemical Alliin Protects the Heart Against Cardiotoxicity in Vivo
Cardiotoxicity is a condition caused by toxin accumulated in the heart that leads to damage to the heart muscle.
Cardiotoxicity reduced the heart pumping blood capability, leading to a decrease in oxygen-rich blood to nourish the body tissues and organs.
Most common symptoms of cardiotoxicity, are tiredness fatigue, chronic cough, water retention and shortness of breath.
If you have experienced some of the aforementioned symptoms that can be healed within a week or 2, please check with your doctor to rule out the possibility.
Most common causes of cardiotoxicity are associated with patients receiving chemotherapy and intake of certain medications. However, infection, excessive alcohol consumption, medical condition such as diabetes and thyroid disease, high blood pressure and thiamine and Vitamin B deficiency have also been found to induce cardiotoxicity.
Some researchers suggested that the promotion of a high-fat diet over the past few decades that facilitate widespread obesity may increase the cardiotoxicity risk of obese who are treated by chemotherapy.
Dr. Mitra MS, the lead scientist said, "Often, chemotherapy by doxorubicin (Adriamycin) is limited due to life-threatening cardiotoxicity in patients during and posttherapy. Recently, we have shown that moderate diet restriction remarkably protects against doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity".
And, "HFD-induced obese rats are highly sensitized to doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity".
In other words, non-obese patients who follow the recommended diet before taking chemotherapy are for the treatment of cancer are less sensitive to doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity compared to a high-fat diet obese.
Alliin (S-allyl-L-cysteine-S-oxide) is a phytochemical compound sulfoxide,. a derivative of the amino acid cysteine, belonging to the class of sulfur compounds, found abundantly in fresh garlic and onion.
With an aim to find a potential compound with cardioprotective activity, researchers examined the effect of S-allyl cysteine sulphoxide (SACS) in isoproterenol (ISO)-induced cardiotoxicity in male Wistar rats.
The study included myocardial infarction was induced by subcutaneous injection of ISO (150 mg/kg) once a day for 2 days followed by SACS (40 and 80 mg/kg) as pretreatment orally daily for a period of 35 days using an intragastric tube.
SACS pretreatment showed significantly lowered levels of free radicals and increased antioxidant activities of mitochondrial superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase, glutathione peroxidase (GPx), glutathione S-transferase (GST), and glutathione (GSH).
Furthermore, SACS pretreatment not only decreased the levels of mitochondrial cholesterol, free fatty acids (FFAs), triglycerides (TGs) and calcium, associated with plaque accumulation and the activity of xanthine oxidase (XOD) involved the production of the free radicals in the heart, but also increased significantly the levels of mitochondrial phospholipids of the inner membrane of the heart against damage.
Moreover, pretreatment of SACS also protected the heart mitochondrial fraction by increasing the activities of isocitrate dehydrogenase (ICDH), succinate dehydrogenase (SDH), alpha-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase (alpha-KGDH), NADH-dehydrogenase, and cytochrome C-oxidase.
Interestingly, oral administration of SACS for a period of 35 days showed no cardio effect in normal control rats.
In other words, SACS modulated heart function against mitochondrial cardiotoxicity without affecting the heart function in healthy control.
Based on the findings researchers said, "The effect at a dose of SACS 80 mg/kg was more effective than the dose 40 mg/kg. The results of the study conclude that SACS protect the mitochondria of the ISO-induced myocardial-infarcted rats".
In order to know more information about SACS cardioprotective activity, researchers examined the preventive role of SACS on glycoproteins and hematology in experimentally induced myocardial infarction in rats for 2 days.
Injection of SACS restored the abnormally significant increase in the levels of serum iron, uric acid and blood glucose, Na(+) and Ca(2+) characterized by heart damage and elevated blood glucose.
Furthermore, the significant decrease in the levels of plasma iron binding capacity, serum total protein, albumin/globulin ratio, heart K(+) and heart glycogen induced by isoproterenol (ISO) associated with heart tissues damage were also inhibited by the treatment of SACS in myocardial infarcted rats.
Moreover, SACS also modulated the immune response in the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines induced by isoproterenol (ISO) toxicity.
Additional differentiation of the results suggested that oral pretreatment with SACS (40 and 80 mg kg(-1)) daily for a period of 35 days prevents cardiotoxicity by improving all the biochemical parameters studied in ISO-induced rats.
Taken altogether, alliin may be considered supplements for the prevention and treatment of cardiotoxicity, depending on the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
Intake of alliin in the form of supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Yoga Therapy In Treatment of Chronic Insomnia
Yoga, in a specific sequence might be effective for treatment of chronic insomnia syndrome, the Universidade Federal de São Paulo study suggested.
Insomnia is condition characterized by trouble of sleeping, affecting over 10% of worldwide population, particularly in women.
Yoga, the accident technique practice for harmonized external and internal body well being, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement and gesture..... has been well known for people in Western world and some parts in Asia due to health benefits reported by various respectable institutes' research and supported by health advocates.
In a study of postmenopausal women in the range of 50 to 65 years old not undergoing hormone therapy, diagnosed with an apnea-hypopnea index less than 15,and insomnia, randomly assigned to one of three groups, control, passive stretching, and yoga, researchers filed the following results
1. Yoga attendees displayed a strong improvement of insomnia through reduced climacteric symptoms and enhanced quality of life and resisted stress.
2. Yoga groups demnonstrated reduction in insomnia severity in compared to significantly higher in the control and passive-stretching groups.
Additionally in the investigated symptoms of insomnia include excessive daytime sleepiness, difficulty falling asleep, difficulty staying asleep, and waking up too early in cancer patients, researchers stated that yoga is a well-tolerated and safe mode of exercise with promising in improving insomnia symptoms among cancer patients.
Therefore, Yoga should be used as secondary clinical recommendations treatment conjunction with standard therapy for the treatment of insomnia in this population, researcher opinionated.
Interestingly, in a randomized, controlled clinical trial to evaluate MBSR as a treatment for chronic insomnia of 18 adults completed an 8-week mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) program, researchers at the University of Minnesota filed the report as follow
1. Yoga, mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) program intervention do not induce more sleeping time, but sleeping better, waking more refreshed, feeling less distressed,.......
2. Participants also expressed that practicing meditation and following sleep hygiene guidelines became priorities.
3. The program also helps patients to sleep faster
Dr. Hubbling A, the led author said, "(Yoga)mindfulness training in a group format, combined with sleep hygiene education, is important for effective application of MBSR as a treatment for chronic insomnia".
Taking altogether, Yoga as an integrated form of exercise, including mindfulness training may be effective in improved chronic insomnia by enhancing psychological and physical aspects.

Phytochemical Betacyanins Kills Bladder Cancer Cells In Vitro
The bladder is a hollow elastic organ in the center of the lower abdomen that collects urine from the kidneys and excreted them through the urethra.
Bladder cancer is the most common type of cancer that affects men twice as frequently as it affects women. Usually, bladder cancer starts from cells on the surface of the inner lining of the bladder caused by several types of malignant growths of the urinary bladder cells.
Depending on the cancer cell originated bladder cancer can be classified into
* Transitional cell carcinoma
Transitional cell carcinoma starts on the innermost tissue layer of the bladder. More than 90 percent of bladder cancers begin in the transitional cells
* Squamous cell carcinoma
Cancer begins in squamous cells found in the tissues of the surface of the bladder, due to long-term infection or irritation. About 8 percent of people with bladder cancers begin squamous cells.
* Adenocarcinoma
Cancer begins originates in glandular tissue of the bladder, including the surface layer of skin, glands and a variety of other tissue, due to long-term irritation and inflammation. Only 2 percent of people with the condition have a third bladder cancer type.
According to the statistics, most cases (90%) of bladder cancer are diagnosed in people older than 55, and the average age people are diagnosed with bladder cancer is 73 worldwide.
Believe it or not, bladder cancer will cause the death of 12,870 in men and 4,800 in women. Among men, bladder cancer is the eighth most common cause of cancer death.
Betacyanins are phytochemicals in the class of red and yellow indole-derived pigments, belonging to the group of Betalains, found abundantly in beets, chard, etc.
With the aim to find a potential compound for the treatment of bladder cancer, researchers examined the effect betacyanins (BC) purified from beetroot (Beta vulgaris var. Rubra L.) alone or in combination with vitexin-2-O-xyloside (XVX) from Beta vulgaris var. cicla L.on T24 bladder cancer cells.
According to the tested differentiation, the combination of BC and XVX exhibited a synergistic effect on the inhibition of proliferation in T24 cancer cells at 24 and 48 h but not after 72 h of incubation.
Furthermore, according to the observation of the means of fluorescence activated cell sorting (FACS) analysis, the combined treament induced cancer cell apoptosis through activating the protein associated with cell death signaling.
In cell death analysis, the combination promoted the expression of genes involved in pro-apoptosis and inhibited the genes associated with anti-apoptosis in bladder cancer cell lines.
Moreover, the combined treatment also demonstrated strong activity in the induction of cytotoxicity against bladder cancer cells without affecting the normal human skin NCTC 2544 keratinocytes.
Based on the finding, Dr. Emanuele Salvatore Scarpa, the lead scientist wrote, "These results demonstrated the efficacy and the mechanisms of the action of BC and XVX, extracted from edible plants, and suggested that a diet or a nutrition supplement, enriched with these bioactive molecules, could be used in the prevention of human bladder cancer".
Taken altogether, betacyanins used alone or combined with herbal remedy may be considered a remedy for the prevention and treatment of bladder cancer, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
Intake of betacyanins in the form of supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Bladder cancer is the most common type of cancer that affects men twice as frequently as it affects women. Usually, bladder cancer starts from cells on the surface of the inner lining of the bladder caused by several types of malignant growths of the urinary bladder cells.
Depending on the cancer cell originated bladder cancer can be classified into
* Transitional cell carcinoma
Transitional cell carcinoma starts on the innermost tissue layer of the bladder. More than 90 percent of bladder cancers begin in the transitional cells
* Squamous cell carcinoma
Cancer begins in squamous cells found in the tissues of the surface of the bladder, due to long-term infection or irritation. About 8 percent of people with bladder cancers begin squamous cells.
* Adenocarcinoma

Healthy Food Tomato Inhibits Hepatic Steatosis in Vivo
Hepatic steatosis is a medical condition caused by the accumulation of fat in the liver.
In other words, if the intrahepatic fat of your liver is more than 5% of liver weight, you are considered to have hepatic steatosis. Over time, untreated hepatic steatosis can lead to liver metabolic dysfunction, inflammation, and advanced forms of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.
Epidemiologically, hepatic steatosis has been found to induce complications in patients with obesity, alcohol intoxication and/or hepatic disorders.
There are several mechanisms involved in the accumulation of intrahepatic fat, including increased flux of fatty acids to the liver, increased de novo lipogenesis, and/or reduced clearance through β-oxidation or very-low-density lipoprotein secretion.
People who are obese, having the condition of insulin resistance or diabetes, dyslipidemia, hypertension, metabolic syndrome, rapid weight loss, using hepatotoxic medications total parenteral nutrition (TPN) are at the increased risk of hepatic steatosis.
Out of many prevalent factors involved in the onset of hepatic steatosis, some researcher suggested that the promotion of the Western diet over the past few decades in the Western world may have a strong and negative impact that acelerates the incidence onset.
Dr. Michael D. Roberts, the lead scientist wrote, "Six weeks of WD feeding caused hepatic steatosis development as evidenced by the 2.25-fold increase in liver triacylglycerol content, but did not induce advanced liver disease (i.e., no overt inflammation or fibrosis)".
And, "sub-chronic WD feeding appears to increase hepatic steatosis development over a 6-week period but only induces select inflammation-related liver transcripts, mostly acute phase response genes. These findings continue to outline the early stages of NAFLD development prior to overt liver inflammation and advanced liver disease".
The results strongly suggested the risk of the Western diet on hepatic steatosis developing.
Tomato is red, edible fruit, genus Solanum, belonging to family Solanaceae, native to South America. Because of its health benefits, the tomato is grown worldwide for the commercial purpose
and often in the greenhouse.
In the urgency to discover healthy foods for the treatment of hepatic steatosis, researchers examined the effect of tomato consumption on biomarkers and gene expression related to lipid metabolism in rats with induced steatosis.
The study included 24 adult male Sprague-Dawley rats (8 weeks old) randomly assigned to (n = 6 rats/group) four experimental groups, including NA (normal diet and water), NL (normal diet and tomato juice), HA (high-fat diet and water) and HL (high-fat diet and tomato juice).
According to the tested assays, before treatment of tomato, HA group fed high-fat diet-induced hepatic steatosis confirmed by the levels of alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase, an indication of liver stress and injury.
Tomato treated group showed a significant increase of levels of lycopene and its secondary metabolites in the livers of these animals, particularly in HL than in NL group, apparently due to higher absorption (63.07 vs. 44.45%).
Furthermore, tomato treated group protected the liver by alleviating oxidative stress through reduction of isoprostanes in the urine observed by increased levels of antioxidant enzymes.
Moreover, levels of high-density lipoprotein were also increased in the HL group compared to the HA group.
Interesting, overexpression of several genes related to lipid metabolism was also found in the HL group compared to nontreatment groups.
In other words, tomato inhibited the onset and progression of hepatic steatosis.in high-fat diet mice by inhibiting liver oxidative stress and enhancing lipid metabolism.
Dr. MartÃn-Pozuelo G, the lead scientist wrote, "The consumption of tomato juice and tomato products reduced hallmarks of steatosis, plasmatic triglycerides, and very low-density lipoproteins, and increased lipid metabolism by inducing an overexpression of genes involved in more efficient fatty acid oxidation".
Taken altogether, tomato may be considered a dietary supplements for the prevention and treatment of hepatic steatosis, pending to large sample size and multicenter human study.

Yoga, the Ancient Technique for reduced Risk and Treatment of Prenatal Depression
Good news to all pregnant mothers' yoga participants, attended yoga lesson may improve the physical and mental health of both mother and fetus as well as reduced risk and management of prenatal depression, the renowned joint study suggested.
Yoga is an ancient practical technique of India, included breath control, meditation, bodily movement, and gesture,..... with an aim to achieve harmonization of the body, mind, and spirit.
Depression is a normal response as part of our daily lives such as the loss of s job, the death of a loved one, and illness. Over 30 million Americans suffer from depression and the amount is increasing at an alarming rate. Depression may be a mental health disorder that can affect the way you eat, sleep, and the way you feel about yourself.
According to the Second Military Medical University, in a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) conducted by searching PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library and PsycINFO from all retrieved articles, yoga participant group showed significantly reduced levels of depression.
In comparison (SMD, -0.46; CI, -0.90 to -0.03; p = 0.04) to controlled group to non-depressed women (SMD, -0.87; CI, -1.22 to -0.52; p < 0.00001) and depression women group, in compared to control, yoga group expressed a statistically significant lower of depression, particularly in depressive symptoms of prenatally depressed women.
Dr. Gong H the lead researcher of the joint study said, "There were two kinds of yoga: the physical-exercise-based yoga and integrated yoga, which, besides physical exercises, included pranayama, meditation or deep relaxation. " and " the level of depression was significantly decreased in the integrated yoga group (SMD, -0.79; CI, -1.07 to -0.51; p < 0.00001) but not significantly reduced in physical-exercise-based yoga group (SMD, -0.41; CI, -1.01 to -0.18; p = 0.17)".
Additionally, a pilot randomized controlled trial (RCT) comparing a prenatal yoga intervention to perinatal-focused health education in pregnant women with depression, also suggested that although both group experience the same efficacy in reduced symptoms of depression, participants favored yoga.
In another larger scale RCT, prenatal yoga group also experienced a remarkable improvement of mood during pregnancy.
Furthermore, a 10-week prenatal yoga program for antenatal depression, accompanying yoga instructors' manual of 34 depressed pregnant women from the community, also indicated that prenatal yoga intervention significantly decreased the severity of participants' depression.
According to the Alpert Medical School of Brown University, prenatal yoga may be the best solution in addressing prenatal depression, as they are acceptable and favorable by most of the participants.
Taking all together, yoga lessons no doubt can be used as an integrated form of exercise in reduced risk and management of prenatal depression, especially for pregnant women with the previous syndrome.

Healthy Food Navy Bean Normalizes Postprandial Glycemic Response
Diabetes is a chronic disease associated with insufficient insulin entering the bloodstream to regulate the glucose caused by either the cells in pancreas died-off or receptor sites clogged-up by fat and cholesterol.
Hyperglycemia is a condition of abnormally high levels of glucose in the bloodstream.
Glycemic response is a change in blood glucose after consuming a carbohydrate-containing food compared to Glycemic Index (GI) that ranks carbohydrate-containing foods according to their effect on blood glucose levels.
In other words, the glycemic response is the change of blood glucose after the intake of a food or meal.
Postprandial blood glucose is the levels taken after 2 hours of a meal, generally at the approximate peak value in patients with diabetes.
According to the 2015 statistics by the American Diabetes Association, in the U.S. over 30.3 million Americans or 9.4% of the population are living with diabetes. Sadly, out of 30.3 million adults with diabetes, 23.1 million were diagnosed, and 7.2 million were undiagnosed.
Believe it or not, in 2015, 84.1 million Americans age 18 and older had prediabetes.
Most people who are not prediabetes or diabetes have normal blood glucose and insulin levels that rise within the range after eating, then return to the fasting levels over a short period of time.
According to the epidemiological studies, by controlling the glycaemic response with the healthy range, the glycaemic response can reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes. Some researchers suggested including additional fibers into a meal or food can reduce the levels of glucose shortly after intake.
By managing postprandial blood glucose effectively, diabetics can decrease the risk of microvascular (retinopathy, nephropathy, and neuropathy) and cardiovascular disease (CVD).
The small, white navy bean, also called pea bean or haricot, popular in both dry and green forms, is very popular in Britain and the US, native to Peru. It is now grown and consumed across the world, due to their numerous health benefits.
With an aim to find a potential compound for the improvement of postprandial glycaemic response, researchers examined the effect of dietary intake of pulses, including navy bean.
The study included healthy young men received commercially prepared pulse powders and BG response was recorded before and after a subsequent meal.
More precisely, participants were randomly divided into a whole, puréed and powdered pulses (navy beans in Expt 1; lentils in Expt 2; chickpeas in Expt 3) and whole-wheat flour as the control.
After a fixed-energy pizza meal (50·2 kJ/kg body weight) was provided at 120 min, the BG concentration was measured before (0-120 min) and after (140-200 min) the pizza meal, researchers found that
* Compared with the whole-wheat flour control, navy bean treatments lowered peak BG concentrations but not the mean BG concentration over 120 min.
* Compared to nay bean, all lentil and chickpea lower the mean BG concentration over 120 min after treatments
* Moreover, processing pulses to powdered form does not eliminate the benefits of whole pulses on BG response.
Based on the finding, researchers said, "the use of pulse powders as value-added food ingredients to moderate postprandial glycaemic response".
Taken altogether, Navy bean used alone or combined with conventional medicine may be considered a remedy for the improvement of postprandial glycaemic response, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Phytochemical Alliin Inhibits the Onset of Hypercholesterolemia
Hypercholesterolemia is a condition characterized by abnormally high levels of cholesterol in the bloodstream.
In other words, the condition is a result caused by either overexpression of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) or low levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL).
Cholesterol, a waxy substance produced by the liver or the dietary in moderate amount source plays a critical to aid digestive function in absorbing nutrients, build strong cell membranes, produce steroid hormones and vitamin D. However, excessive amounts in the blood have been found to induce plaque built-up on the arterial wall, leading to heart disease and stroke.
Similar to high blood pressure, people with hypercholesterolemia are asymptomatic. In patients with familial hypercholesterol may experience symptoms of chest pain with activity. xanthomas, and cholesterol deposits around the eyelids.
According to the statistics provided by the CDC, hypercholesterolemia is a major risk factor of heart disease, a leading cause of death in the US. In the US, approximately, 71 million American adults (33.5%) have high low-density lipoprotein (LDL), or “bad,” cholesterol. and only 1 out of every 3 adults with high LDL cholesterol has the condition under control.
Sadly, only 50% of people hypercholesterolemia are getting treatment.
Out of many risk factors associated with the risk of hypercholesterolemia, some researchers suggested that the widespread obesity due to the promotion of a high-fat diet over the past few decades may have a strong impact in the increased the incidence in the US.
Dr. Jeannie Chan, the lead scientist wrote, "ApoE deficient mice, generated by gene targeting, have a lipoprotein profile similar to humans in that most of the plasma cholesterol is carried on VLDL and IDL particles rather than HDL particles as in non-genetically modified mice. ApoE-/- mice have elevated levels of plasma cholesterol even on a chow diet and develop atherosclerotic lesions spontaneously. Advanced lesions with plaque rupture that resemble those in humans have frequently observed in apoE-/- mice fed an HCHF diet, and these mice are used for developing drugs to reduce atherosclerosis".
In other words, a high-fat diet promoted the genes associated with cholesterol secretion.
With an aim to find a potential ingredient for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia, researchers evaluated the capacity of Allium ursinum (wild garlic) leaf lyophilisate (WGLL; alliin content: 0.261%) to mitigate cardiovascular damage in hypercholesterolemic rabbits.
New Zealand rabbits selected to the study were divided into three groups: (i) cholesterol-free rabbit chow (control); (ii) rabbit chow containing 2% cholesterol (hypercholesterolemic, HC); (iii) rabbit chow containing 2% cholesterol + 2% WGLL (hypercholesterolemic treated, HCT); for eight weeks.
According to the Western blot analysis, WGLL protected the heart by improving aortic and coronary flow.
WGLL was also found to inhibit the atherosclerotic plaque coverage.
Furthermore, WGLL also reduced the risk of hypercholesteremia by significantly reducing the plasma levels of low-density lipoprotein.
Based on the findings, researchers said, "The results clearly demonstrate that WGLL has complex cardioprotective effects, suggesting future strategies for its use in prevention and therapy for atherosclerotic disorders".
Taken altogether, alliin may be considered supplements for the prevention and treatment of heart disease associated with hypercholesterolemia, depending on the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
Intake of alliin in the form of supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Yoga, A Safe and Effective Therapy in Alleviated Menopause Symptoms
A recent study conducted by a renowned institute suggested that yoga therapy can enhance the quality of life and alleviate menopausal symptoms.
Menopause is the transition stage of permanent cessation of the ovaries functions in egg production inducing less production of estrogen and progesterone, signaling the end of the reproductive phrase a woman's life. In perimenopause, menstruation has become irregular and slowly stop over time, but in some women, menstrual flow may come to a sudden halt.
Yoga, the ancient technique practice for harmonized external and internal body well being, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement, and gesture..... has been well known for people in the Western world and some parts in Asia due to health benefits reported by various respectable institutes' research and supported by health advocates.
In a secondary analysis of a randomized controlled trial in comparing the effects of yoga with those of usual cares in 40 breast cancer survivors suffered from menopausal symptoms, with all participants completed all 3 assessments (week 0, week 12, and week 24), yoga attendees scored a significant improvement of total menopausal symptoms, including psychological menopausal symptoms, and urogenital menopausal symptoms, as well as enhanced, quality of life, social well-being, emotional well-being, functional well-being and fatigue in comparison to control group.
Dr. Koch AK, the lead author said, "self-esteem plays a vital role in the beneficial effect of yoga and that yoga can have long-term benefits for women diagnosed with breast cancer and undergoing menopausal transition".
Furthermore, in the compared study to test the effects of a 12-week traditional Hatha yoga and meditation intervention on menopausal symptoms in breast cancer survivors, yoga and meditation intervention expresses a significant improvement in lower total menopausal symptoms compared with the usual care group at week 12 (mean difference, -5.6; 95% confidence interval, -9.2 to -1.9; P = .004) and at week 24.
Additionally, Yoga group also showed a remarkable benefit in less vegetative, psychological, and urogenital menopausal symptoms; less fatigue at weeks 12, particular in short terms.
With the promising results, some researchers suggested that yoga can be considered as a safe and effective alternative intervention in ameliorated menopausal symptoms with persistence, at least 3 months.
In fact, yoga intervention also has positive and specific implications for menopausal symptoms frequency. According to the 37 disease-free women experiencing hot flashes randomized to the 8-week Yoga of Awareness program (gentle yoga poses, meditation, and breathing exercises) or to a wait-list control. yoga group expressed a significantly greater improvement relative to the control condition in hot-flash frequency, severity, and total scores and in levels of joint pain, fatigue, sleep disturbance, symptom-related bother, and vigor in post-treatment, compared to control group.
More importantly, at 3 months follow-up, patients in yoga group onlymaintained the improvement in hot flashes, joint pain, fatigue, symptom-related bother, and vigor but also showed additional significant gains in negative mood, relaxation, and acceptance as same in post-treatment.
Taking together, Participation in a yoga class may be one of the safe and effective interventions in attenuated menopause symptoms in many aspects.

Bromelain, Suppresses the Risk and Onset of Colitis
Colitis is a medical condition characterized by the inflammation of the large intestine, including the colon, caecum, and rectum.
Depending on the types of colitis, most common prevalent factors found in patients with such as condition are.
* Familial history of inflammatory bowel disease (odds ratio (OR) 4.3)
* Breastfeeding (OR 2.1)
* Bacille Calmette-Guerin vaccination (OR 3.6 )
* History of eczema (OR 2.1 (1-4.5))
* Disease during pregnancy (OR 8.9 (1.5-52)), and
* Bedroom sharing (OR 7.1 (1.9-27.4))
* Crohn's disease both appendectomy and tonsillectomy have positive associations. Well-established
* Smoking status
* If you are over 50, you are at increased to develop colitis.
And * Depression and psychosocial stress, according to the basis of data from the Nurses' Health Study, increase the risk for CD, but not UC, among women. Psychological factors might have been found to induce CD developing.
Furthermore, patients with medicals condition such as hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, and atrial fibrillation are associated with increased risk to develop ischemic colitis(IC), according to the study by Beijing Hospital, Ministry of Health.
Believe it or not, regular drinking of tap water was a protective factor and ulcerative colitis appendicectomy was a protective factor.
Bromelain, a proteolytic enzyme found in pineapples (Ananas comosus) has been used in traditional medicine as an inflammatory agent and to treat pains, strains, and muscle aches and pains and ease back pain and chronic joint pain, skin diseases, etc.
With an aim to find a potential compound for the treatment of colitis, researchers examined the effects of bromelain on the inflammatory response that lead to the onset of colitis.
In epithelial TNFR in rats colitis induced by the intracolonic administration of 2, 4, 6-trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid, injection of purified fruit bromelain (PFB) significantly decreased the increased expression of TNFR1 and TNFR2.
Where TNF-α receptor (TNFR) is a proinflammatory cytokine activated by the immune response.
Furthermore, typical symptoms associated with colitis such as infiltration of inflammatory cells, cytokine profiles, epithelial cell apoptosis, and epithelial tight junction barrier dysfunction were significantly ameliorated by PFB.
According to the chemical analysis, fruit bromelain showed a superior inhibition of TNFR2 than that exhibited on TNFR1 compared to those of stem bromelain complex.
In other words, PFB expressed its anti-inflammatory activity by blocking the activation of high expression of epithelial TNFRs.
Based on the findings, researchers said, "PFB-induced TNFR inhibition ameliorated colitis symptoms. These results supply novel insights into potential IBD treatment by PFB".
In other to reveal more information of bromelain anti colitis effects, researchers evaluated the long-term dietary supplementation with pineapple (supplied as juice) in decreasing colon inflammation and neoplasia in Il10(-/-) mice with chronic colitis as compared with bromelain derived from the stem.
Colitis triggered in Il10(-/-) mice by exposure to the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug piroxicam for 6 month showed a decreased histologic colon inflammation scores and lower incidence of inflammation-associated colonic neoplasia (35% versus 66%; P < 0.02), with fewer neoplastic lesions/colon (P = 0.05) after receiving treatment of fresh juice.
According to the tested assays, fresh pineapple juice demonstrated proteolytic activity in removing cell surface molecules that can affect leukocyte response.
Dr. Hale LP, the lead scientist wrote in the final report, "long-term dietary supplementation with fresh or unpasteurized frozen pineapple juice with proteolytically active bromelain enzymes is safe and decreases inflammation severity and the incidence and multiplicity of inflammation-associated colonic neoplasia in this commonly used murine model of inflammatory bowel disease".
Taken altogether, bromelain used alone or combined with conventional medicine may be considered a remedy for the prevention and treatment of colitis associated with inflammatory bowel disease, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
Intake of bromelain in the form of supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

An inflammatory bowel (IBD) disease is a group of chronic inflammatory diseases associated with the digestive tract, including ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease.
Ulcerative colitis has been found to induce chronic inflammation and ulcers in the inner lining of the large intestine (colon) and rectum.
Crohn's disease is a type of IBD associated with the inflammation of the lining of the digestive tract.
According to the statistics, provided by the CDC in the US, IBD affects over 1.3% or 3 million US adults including Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis in 2015.
Most cases of IBD has been found in older adults in the age of 45 years or older.
Most common symptoms of IBD include diarrhea, fever, and fatigue, abdominal pain and cramping, loss of appetite and unintended weight loss.
In serious cases, some patients may also experience blood in the stool.
If you are experiencing the aforementioned symptoms, please check with your doctor to rule out the possibility.
Conventionally, most cases of IBD are treated with anti-inflammatory medicine, immune suppressor or antibiotics, and drugs that reduce symptoms, depending on the severity of the conditions.
Bromelain, a proteolytic enzyme found in pineapples (Ananas comosus) has been used in traditional medicine as an inflammatory agent and to treat pains, strains, and muscle aches and pains and ease back pain and chronic joint pain, skin diseases, etc.
On finding a natural compound for the treatment of colitis, researchers examined the bromelain, a mixture of proteinases derived from pineapple stem in an animal model with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
The experiment included IL-10-/- mice treated orally with bromelain in vivo for 5 weeks.
During the study, daily treatment with oral bromelain beginning at age 5 weeks exerted a significant effect in decreased the incidence and severity of spontaneous colitis.
In IL-10-/- mice established colitis by administered to piroxicam, the proteolytic enzyme also significantly decreased the clinical and histologic severity of colonic inflammation.
In the examination of the bromelain adverse effect, researchers found that dermatitis, hair loss, and weight loss due to mucositis were rare in a dose-related manner.
In the wild-type mice, there was no adverse effect found in the dose of 1000 mg bromelain/kg/day for 18 weeks orally.
The findings clearly suggested the efficacy of bromelain for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
Dr. Hale LP, the lead scientist after taking into account co confounders said, " Although the exact mechanisms by which exogenous proteinases affect bowel inflammation have not yet been determined, the results justify additional studies of this complementary biologically based approach to the treatment of IBD".
Taken altogether, bromelain may be considered supplements for the prevention and treatment of bowel disease (IBD), pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
Intake of turmeric in the form of supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Healthy Food Onion Processes Immunomodulatory Activity for the Needs of the Body
The immune system formed part of the defense system is the set of cells associated with the activity that protect the body against antigens or infectious agents.
It is one of the body's defense system against diseases by keeping us healthy and preventing infections.
Immune dysfunction is a chronic condition, depending on the parts of the immune system affected.
The immune dysfunction can be classified into
* The underactive immune system is also known as the weakened immune system. People with the underactive immune system are susceptible to infection, recurrent infections.
* The overactive immune system is also known as autoimmune diseases. In this case, patients suffer diseases associated with the immune system that attacks the body tissues.
Immunomodulation is a process in which an immune response is altered to the desired level. In other words, under the immunomodulatory effect, the immune system is responding correctly to the desire of the body, regardless of types of immune dysfunction.
Some researchers suggested that by providing the necessary nutrition which has been found to play major exogenous factors in modulating different aspects of immune function. Therefore, the immune system can be optimal for the benefits of human health.
Dr. the lead scientist outlined,
* " nutrition induces a significant modulation of a marker within the reference range" or
* "nutrition induces a significant modulation of a marker from outside the reference or control range back into the range" or
*"nutrition induces a significant modulation of a marker from within the reference or control range to outside the range" or
* "nutrition prevents a significant modulation of a marker from within the reference or control range to outside the range" or
* "nutrition induces a significant modulation of a marker from a less favorable reference range into the reference range of a comparator group with a more favorable immune function".
Finally, the doctor said, "If related immune function markers show consistent changes, the interpretation will be easy and will follow the same logic as for individual markers" and "If changes in related markers are not consistent, interpretation is greatly helped by good clinical practices that include the a priori definition of the most important ‘lead markers’ (typically groups A and B)".
In other words, immune functioning can be modulated to the body needs.
The onion is a plant in the genus Allium, belongings to the family Alliaceae, a close relation of garlic. It is often called the "king of vegetables" because of its pungent taste and found in a large number of recipes and preparations spanning almost the totality of the world's cultures.
Depending on the variety, an onion can be sharp, spicy, tangy, pungent, mild or sweet.
With an aim to find a potential compound that processes immunomodulatory effect, researchers examined the onion extract against disease associated with immune dysfunction.
In vitro, application of both onion aqueous and ethanolic extract of garlic powder significantly stimulated cell proliferation of rat spleen lymphocytes, by activating a cytokine signaling molecule in the immune system that regulates the activities of white blood cells.
These activities were totally depending on specific stimulator of cell proliferation. In this case, it was the interleukin 2 (IL2).
In subjected treated with concanavalin, both extracts also modulated the proliferation of rat thymocytes and splenocytes in response to concanavalin administration.
Interestingly, depending on the concentration, onion extracts not only had an inhibitory effect on T cell proliferation at higher concentrations but also increased T cell proliferation at lower concentrations of extracts.
In other words, onion processed immune modulatory effects depending on the body needs.
Taken altogether, onion may be considered a remedy for the promotion of immune function, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
