The smoothie for reduced risk and treatment of Hashimoto's thyroiditis

Yield: 2 servings (about 8 ounces each)
1 1/4 cup cooked tomato
1/4 cup dulse
1 cup green tea drink (Make from 4 grams of green tea and a cup of hot water lipped for 5 minutes, and set aside for cooling to room temperature)

1. Place all ingredients in a blender and puree about 1 minute
2. Blend on high speed about 1 minute or until the mixture is thick and the ice is well crushed. Add more green tea drink if needed
3. Serve immediately

The dream of finding the natural ingredient for prevention and treatment of Hashimoto's thyroiditis without adverse effects in replacement of conventional medication has not been abated. Some ingredients have to discard because of not achieving the same potent results in human trials.
Green tea(1), tomato(5) and Dusle(8) may have a potential and therapeutic value for reduced risk and treatment of Hashimoto's thyroiditis probably due to theirs' phytochemicals  in immune modulating effects.
Hashimoto's thyroiditis or chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis is defined as a condition of inflammation of the thyroid gland as a result of an autoimmune disease of that can lead to hypothyriodism due to weakened thyroid function.
Green tea has been a precious drink in traditional Chinese culture and used exceptional in socialization for more than 4000 thousand years. Because of their health benefits, they have been cultivated for commercial purposes all over the world. According to the Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine, green tea polyphenols (GTPs) possess anti-inflammatory properties and are effective in inhibiting autoimmune diseases as well prevention of animal model of Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT)(1).
Dr. Hisanaga A and research team at the Kagoshima University suggested, green tea catechins expressed the strong anti-inflammatory activity through down regulation of the levels of pro-inflammatory mediators, including inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), nitric oxide (NO), interleukin-12 (IL-12) (p70), tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α)....(2).
Furthermore, green tea EGCG, inhibited CD4(+) T cell expansion in response to either polyclonal or antigen specific stimulation, reduced production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, expressed anti proinflammatory cytokines induced an autoimmune disease such as . Hashimoto's thyroiditis(3).

Beta-carotene, a chemical constituent found in tomato expressed a strong anti oxidative stress in induction of pathogenesis of several autoimmune disorders, including Hashimoto's thyroiditis(5).
According to the Fujita Health University School of Health Sciences, serum of beta carotene is associated to levels of inflammatory markers, through inhibition of proinflammatory cytokines(6).
Furthermore, In the study of beta-carotene, vitamin A and carrier proteins in thyroid diseases, Dr Aktuna D and researchers at thev showed that patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis is associated to lower levels of vitamin A(7).

Dulse is a red seaweed of genus Palmaria, belong to Family Palmariaceae that grows attached to rocks by a "holdfast" in the North Atlantic and Northwest Pacific,  used in Ireland and Atlantic Canada both as food and medicinally and is now shipped around the globe. Its chemical constituent
is associated to reduced risk  and treatment of patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis residing in an area of mild iodine deficiency(8).
Dr.Duntas LH said. " Iodine and selenium (Se) are both essential elements to thyroid hormone economy" and " iodine excess increases intra-thyroid infiltrating Th17 cells and inhibits T regulatory (TREG) cells development...", therefore maintaining right levels of iodine may be important for reduced the expression of the disease through intake of selenium in regulation of the auto immune dysfunction caused by iodine excess (9).

The finding of the effectiveness of Green tea, Carrot and Dulse for Protection against vitamin A and Iodine deficiency in induction of Hashimoto's thyroiditis, through theirs phytochemicals may serve as cornerstones of pharmaceutical target for further studies as well as a potential medication for treatment of Hashimoto's thyroiditis
