Kidney bean, the Whole Food in Reduced Risk and Treatment of Leukemia

Intake of cooked Dried red kidney beans regularly may reduce risk and delay progression risk of Leukemia, a renowned institute study proposed.

Kidney bean is popular food, with kidney shape, strong flavor and color in reddish-brown in nature used often as an excellent dietary selection because of enormous health benefits with a good source of protein and minerals.

Leukemia is a condition of abnormal increase of white blood cells produced by the bone marrow and/or the lymphatic system. Depending on the malignant granulocytes or lymphocytes, leukemia is classified into myelogenous or lymphoblastic leukemia.

Dr. Ma DZ, the lead researcher said, "(the antifungal peptide isolated from dried Nepalese large red beans) exerted an antiproliferative action on L1210 leukemia cells with an an half concentration of high doses at 15 and 60 microM, respectively".


Other chemical compound, L-asparaginaseenzyme, isolated from Phaseolus vulgaris seeds also enhanced anti-proliferative effect on ALL cells according to the WST-8 cell viability assay kit.

Furthermore, treatment of L-asparaginaseenzyme also involved significant in induced early apoptosis in acute Lymphoblastic leukemia in test subjects in vivo.

According to the joint study lead by the King Abdulaziz University, the efficacy of novel L-asparaginaseenzyme, isolated from Phaseolus vulgaris seeds (P-Asp) in mice study showed that mice treated with P-Asp had less distinct allergenic responses by the immune system in expression of higher risk of carcinogens and reduced treatment effects.

There is no doubt that kidney beans may be a potential health benefit in targeting the risk of Leukemia in the early stage and prevent the progression of cancer through anti-proliferative and induced tumors cell death.
